Are Carry Cots Essential?

NAWALKER · 27/03/2020 19:40

I'm currently looking at the Ocarro Mamas and Papas push chair which can be used from birth.

Would people suggest going for a travel system which has a carry cot included or would just using the prawn which reclines flat be fine?

I've had a few friends say they never really used the carry cot so isn't really required.

Opinions?

Thank you

Didn't have one with either child...

I just had a Maclaren that let me tip it back so dd could sleep flat.

No they aren’t.

I didn’t have one for ds. You just have to make sure the pram lays completely flat.

We loved ours. Neither of us drive so we walked a lot with ds in the pram. We had the silver cross pioneer so it came with it anyway. We used it until he was 6 months, the recommended age for the pushchair

Depends on your pram. I got a pram with a carry cot that looked lovely and comfy but at around 3 months DS was too long for it so for us it wasn't the best choice. A lie flat pram would have been a better choice.

Not essential but totally dependent on pushchair.

Mine (Bugaboo Donkey) wouldn't have been suitable from birth and I loved the carrycot + it was extra long so DS used it for a good 8 months and slept wonderfully in it

But my Bugaboo Bee comes with a bassinet attachment so it is suitable from birth

I used mine a lot, small baby that would not have got on well with a pushchair harness. But I used it instead of a moses basket downstairs. We have only just stopped using it at 6.5 months

Megan2018 · 27/03/2020 20:02

Oh and she’s not grown out of it yet either, she just prefers sitting up.
Mine is an icandy all terrain.

eatthepineapple · 27/03/2020 20:03

We had the icandy peach and loved the carrycot as it could also be used as a travel cot while she still fit in it for when we stayed away (not that we will be able to do that for a while now!) and for using downstairs etc. But then again the seat part of that buggy wouldn't be suitable for newborn anyway so we had little choice

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 27/03/2020 20:08

We used the carrycot for naps downstairs in the house as well as going out, so it was worth it. If we hadn't done that, I'm less sure it would have been worth the extra money.

Soubriquet · 27/03/2020 20:08

I liked the carrycot for dd... but she hated after 4 months. Wanted to sit up and be nosy.

So she was reclined in the main pram
from there

Hello. I had a carry cot which I essentially used as a Moses basket at home (I had I candy and it’s safe for overnight sleep). When I took the pram at the beginning I always use to use the car seat as I hate having to wake up baby once we arrive somewhere. I bought my pram second hand and the carry cot was new as previous owners never used it either.

EnglishRain · 01/04/2020 20:36

I've got the icandy peach because it's safe for overnight sleeping so the carrycot is versatile in that sense. The seat fabric goes on the same parts as the carrycot, so when baby is big enough you basically have the fabric for the carrycot to store and that's it, so at least it's not majorly bulky storage wise.

Not all carrycots are safe for sleeping though, so if you do get one for that perk make sure it's one that is safe to do so with.

We used our carrycot for 6 months on the pram and for sleeping at home for about 7 or 8 months. It’s brilliant, but my son would often refuse to sleep anywhere else. The only reason we stopped using it on the pram at 6 months is that he started to pull himself up to sitting in the carrycot when I was walking with him. They look so cosy in them and much easier than the lie flats where you need to buckle them in, as you just put them down and you’re done.
Might also add that I am from a very pram and carry cot heavy culture so just felt very natural to me to use it a lot and wouldn’t have dreamt of anything else, was very important to me when choosing a pram.
