Help! Tall parents needing a tall pram

M2B19 · 02/04/2019 11:22

Hi all.
My husband and I are struggling to find a suitable pram (carry cot and toddler seat, not fussed about a car seat). I’m 6ft 1 and my husband is 6ft 8 and it’s him we’re struggling with. Ideally we didn’t want to spend more than £500 but the only suitable pram we’ve seen so far is the Mamas and Papas Occaro and it’s £749. We would like something that extends to a good height with four wheels (ideally in navy blue) any suggestions gladly received Smile

Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on handle height. I find it easier and better on the back to push a lower handle with arms relaxed. Power through the legs and bum.

Dh is very tall and we have the Uppababy Vista. Not only does the handlebar go very high, it’s also designed so that tall people won’t end up kicking the chassis as they walk which was the problem with many we tried. Plenty of bargains to be had secondhand, we got a barely used one locally on eBay for less than £200

LostInTheColonies · 02/04/2019 11:33

DBro is 6'6" & SIL only about 5'2". They have a Mountain Buggy with height-adjustable handle; works well for both. DSis 6' and had same (she started with a 4-wheel something which was really hard to manoeuvre & swapped for a Mountain Buggy after trying mine but I'm a bit of a family midget at 5'9"). 3 wheels, which is super-easy to push, and they do take both a carrycot & toddler seat. As you can see, as a family we are completely biased Grin. Various colours & you can take them anywhere...

Bugaboos have adjustable handles, I know my BIL (6'3) was fine with the Bee, as was DSis (5'2).

Not sure if it would be OK for 6'8 though!

The Mothercare four wheel travel system has an extendable handles and it's more than adequate for my husband who's 6 ft 3. It comes in a range of colours including a navy one which they call 'petrol'. It's £299.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT handle goes really high. And an absolute dream to fold and to drive. But only three wheels

Vanannabananna · 02/04/2019 12:00

All my tall friends have an uppababy vista

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 02/04/2019 12:02

I had the opposite problem, I’m only 5’1 BUT my very tall friend (6’6) had no issues pushing my stokke xplory pram/pushchair as the handle was extendable. It was an absolute dream to push too, I loved it and they hold their value to a certain degree! They’re quite “quirky” to look at but I adored mine and can’t revommend it highly enough.

Agree with this! Might be worth looking at some of the other baby jogger models if you definitely want four wheels.

melissasummerfield · 02/04/2019 12:07

I had a mamas and papas mylo and the extending handle made all the difference

Her0utdoors · 02/04/2019 12:12

Uppababy and Mutsy are the brands I'd check out (I have a Mutsy Evo, it's brilliant). Best Buggy UK is a good website to look at, lots of side by side photos of different models to compare.

MaverickSnoopy · 02/04/2019 12:51

We have the uppababy vista. DH loves it because when he pushes the handle extends. Also useful when wanting toddler to go on buggy board.

PeachPotato · 06/04/2019 18:46

My dh is the same height! He found the icandy great, because of the extendable handle. I think a handlebar that extends rather than swivels to get higher is great because you get extra striding length.

He also liked the city mini gt but I wanted parent facing.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 06/04/2019 18:49

I’ve got a Joolz Geo which has an extendable handle, but you would have to look at second hand for your budget. Can easily get a bargain as new one on the Joolz selling facebook page.

PlugUgly1980 · 06/04/2019 18:56

Uppababy Vista for us too!

NewAccount270219 · 06/04/2019 18:59

I don't think just 'has an extendable handle' will do it for OP unless it extends much higher than most - we've had two prams (silver cross and uppababy) and both had extendable handles but both were clearly near their limit for 6'2 DH so I wouldn't recommend them to someone who's 6'8

GookledyGobb · 06/04/2019 19:09

It’s not just the handle that matters when you’re tall. The placement of the basket is important as otherwise you kick it when you walk.
Tall husband here too and we’ve always had Icandy with no issue. Will be within budget second hand

MoreSlidingDoors · 06/04/2019 19:11

We had a stokke xplory. Absolutely brilliant.

DowntonCrabby · 06/04/2019 19:12

A third vote for the uppababy Vista. We’re 5 10’ And 6 3’ and it was perfect. Shorter GP’s were able to use it comfortably too on the lower setting.
I’d go in at a quiet shopping time and have a proper play with a few OP to get a few what what’s right for you.

aweedropofsancerre · 06/04/2019 19:14

with our last DC4 we had relaxed on what type of buggy we were looking for. We are tall too at 6ft and 6ft 4 and we went for a silver cross buggy that could be forward or rear facing and was from birth. The handles extended...perfect for us..

boomboom1234 · 06/04/2019 19:15

Uppa baby vista as it also turns into a double if you have another one too! I'm 5 3 and my husband is 6 3 and we both find it comfortable to push as can extend the handlebar

ChiefSpoon · 06/04/2019 19:22

Vista 😍

Lumene · 06/04/2019 19:30

Also think about size of pram in relation to likely tall child. Our friends who are both over 6 foot went for a Bugaboo over a Vista for this reason. Height was fine.

HarrietM87 · 06/04/2019 19:32

Similar issues here and went for the bugaboo bee. Wanted something nippy so considered babyzen yoyo but handles don’t adjust. Bugaboo seat also extends higher for a tall child which I think will come in handy.

Mim21 · 18/08/2021 11:38

I'm 5ft11 and DH 6ft6 and we have uppa baby vista, as do our other tall friends, great for not kicking the base etc, plenty decent second hand ones around for less than £500. It isn't the neatest size wise but fine if you have a good sized boot, feels sturdy and has some good features! x
