If I didn’t buy that BJCM GT, what would I go for?

Perhaps a random question but trying to work out what the alternatives are!

I’m early pg with DC3 and need something with decent wheels - we’re urban but terrible pavements, big parks and cobbles so need wheels that can handle that. Very lightweight compact styles like Bugaboo Bee and Babyzen Yoyo are not so great for that around here - I’ve spoken to a few parents at DCs’ school who are using them who are getting really frustrated with the wheels (I think it’s just a case of our awkward area!).

Bigger wheels tend to mean bigger buggies, but as we’re urban and have older children (5yo and 7yo so school runs, sports clubs etc) I don’t want a hefty thing that will be awkward wherever I go. I do also have a carrier that I will use but will still want a versatile pushchair.

Ideally I’m looking at spending up to £500-600. This is where the larger Bugaboos get ruled out, plus they don’t seem to fold quickly/easily, which would be useful for public transport but having said that may not be essential - we mainly walk, sometimes bus but that’s usually at quiet times, don’t get the tube often but when we do we use the step free routes etc at non peak times. We do plan on getting a car later this year.

At the moment, the BJCM GT seems to be the most rounded for our needs. It is a bit wide and I would have liked parent facing (purely for soppiness!), but generally good and has the folding handlebar. We had the BJCM (ie not GT) for DCs 1&2 and rated it, only wished we could adjust the handle, parent face and be slightly more compact - so basically the GT does one of those things l, the parent facing really isn’t essential, and it may be our best compromise.

I’ve looked at Joolz Hub but worry about its weight and ease of folding. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Is there something more compact with decent wheels?

If you use the bassinet with the BJCM GT baby will be parent facing from birth. I'm using this currently & find it fantastic. Adjustable handlebar, easy to put up/down, easy to manoeuvre. I don't think there is a better option! We have also found that this baby has slept in the bassinet through the day & got a lot of use out of it.

Thanks always, I’m looking at the bassinet online now and does look really good!

The mountain buggy swift. If you buy the carrycot plus, it has a parent facing option after the carrycot mode also

Ooh thanks Strawberry I’ll check it out.

Do they still make the baby jogger versa GT? I loved mine. My only complaint was the weight - it's very heavy.

Micralite?

Can't comment on your alternatives but just to endorse the BJCM GT, the only pushchair we've ever had and lasted is v well through 2 DC. We got the bigger carrycot which fits them in for longer. Moved them to forward facing when they started trying to sit up! It is poor with a buggy board but unless you're planning DC4 that won't be relevant to you.

Thanks for more recommendations Smile

That’s helpful Fratercula. Not actively planning a DC4 right now. Our 2 DCs were much closer than I had planned so we moved from the original BJCM we had to use a double Maclaren, so that’s helpful to know as we sold the BJCM to fund the Maclaren but did miss it! Especially the wheels, which were much better than the Maclaren wheels, and the GT wheels seem even better.
