UPPAbaby Vista or Mammas and papas Ocarro?

Have been comparing these two travel systems and really can't decide between the two. Does anyone have any opinions on either of these makes?

We are looking for something which folds up easily and stands up on its own, is not too wide, and not too heavy.

Any advice would be great.

I have the (older) vista for the past four years and I mostly love it, using it from newborn to double-buggy. But all of its downsides are the things you say you want - it is really wide, quite heavy, a bit of a pain to fold... I haven’t used the Cruz it seems to have most of the good stuff without the size and weight. I’m surprised a wish list of light ad portable would lead you to Vista.

I don’t know what to recommend but I’d think the Vista wouldn’t meet several of your criteria

Notquiteagandt · 09/09/2018 20:34

Vista is at the heavier end of pushchairs id say. Do u specifically need a double? Maybe look at the cruz.

Uppababy after sales are fantastic. Good customer services and easy to buy or obtain under warantee spare parts too. Which for me is a big consideration.

DunkandEggAgain · 09/09/2018 20:36

Yeah...I posted on a thread recently about my experience with the Vista. Not good. Some love it and I appreciate that. But I was sorely disappointed. The thread maybe in this chat room and worth a read as a fair few posters gave their honest opinions - which is what you need.
Best thing is to test your choices in a shop. The Vist is NOT light!

DunkandEggAgain · 09/09/2018 20:39

It's in my Watch list still. Here you go.

I have the new Uppababy vista 2018. It's a great pram in every way but very heavy and does not really stand up on its own. Have a look at it in John Lewis or wherever you are buying it and make sure you lift it and check the weight

loopdeelou · 11/09/2018 07:59

Thanks all. I'll go have a play with the vista again in John Lewis and try to work out if I need to build up some arm muscles or go with something else!

I have the Ocarro. Love it and I’d have it again but it’s quite heavy.

BlueKittens · 11/09/2018 08:16

I don’t have either but some feedback on width- my friend had trouble getting her vista down the aisles of our local co-op so has bought a replacement buggy. Apparently the uppababy Cruise is narrower, another friend has this, but when I’ve pushed it in the park it felt quite bumpy suspension wise and my friend has complained about this (I wouldn’t take it off road), I’ve not pushed the vista though. She said if she did it again she would buy a baby jogger city mini GT, which we have. We’re still using it age 3 and about to reuse for new baby with a carrycot- excellent buggy would recommend

BlueKittens · 11/09/2018 08:18

Sorry I meant Uppababy Cruz not cruise!

CeeCeeEnnEss · 11/09/2018 08:21

I love our Vista and still use it for our 19 month old because the basket is so big and it’s such a smooth ride.

I quite like that it’s wide and heavy; it’s like a tank for moving obstacles!

BeautifulPossibilities · 11/09/2018 08:22

Once you've got the fold mechanism for the vista is a great plan. I don't find it heavy and the giant basket and huge sunshade are fab. We didn't use the pram top for long but the buggy section is great, especially with the bar that goes across which means you don't need to strap them in if you don't want to (you are probably meant to but I find it handy just to pop child in).

BlueKittens · 11/09/2018 08:36

Oh another thing I remembered- the carrycot is quite short - my friends baby had to come out of it at 10 weeks- not ideal as they’re still supposed to be lying flat at that stage. Remember her complaining about this too. Our dd stayed in her carrycot til 5 months (babies were a similar height)

duckii · 11/09/2018 15:47

@BlueKittens they have extended the carrycot length in the 2018 vista model. My LO is 4 and a half months and still has loads of room left

BlueKittens · 11/09/2018 18:43

Ah - my information is out of date then - I’m thinking of the 2015/16 model

sycamore54321 · 12/09/2018 09:57

As I said above, I have adored my enormous heavy vista but it suited the way I lived. I rarely drove anywhere, we walked miles with it each day, had enough space in my hallway to keep it standing unfolded all the time. I agree that the basket, sunshade, comfortable seats, adaptability from single to double are all amazing. The fold thing is fine for me to use myself but it’s so fiddly that you can’t, for example, easily tell a helpful taxi driver how to fold it, and you need two hands (on the older model anyway) so you need to put the child down somewhere while you fold. If you have space in your home, and space wherever you are going to keep it unfolded, then it’s marvellous. For frequent trips by car or if you need to haul it up flights of stairs or into crowded narrow shops, then there are real disadvantages.

For the poster who mentioned the bar/no straps, I don’t mean to be doom and gloom, but I’d always use at least the belt strap. As part of my antenatal classes, a paediatrician from the emergency department gave a presentation about the top causes of accidents for children that they see in the A&E. Falls and injuries from not being correctly strapped into buggies was mentioned quite highly, and that has always stuck with me.

dancingbee · 12/09/2018 10:40

Thanks for all of the helpful information everyone! If the pram is not in our car then it'll need to come into our hallway. The hall doesn't have enough space to leave the buggy unfolded but does have a corner area where a pram would easily fit if folded and standing up. That's why I'm specifically looking for one that'll stand as opposed to lie on the floor (like a lot of others I've seen) and both the Uppababy and occaro stand up in a similar way.
At the minute I'm not very outdoorsy due to my work(!) but I'm hoping that'll change and I want to be able to take a pram on gravel paths near us. So I like the look of the suspension on the vista. Just difficult to decide if it's best to go for one like that OR one that can easily be lifted into the car boot. Seems tricky to find the best of both.

sycamore54321 · 12/09/2018 11:35

If the stand-up thing is a deal-breaker for you, but otherwise you have the perfect buggy, you could consider hanging it on the wall from hooks?

BlueKittens · 12/09/2018 15:35

For the risk of looking a little bit odd, I’d take a trip to your local park and stop parents using different buggies to ask what they like/don’t like. I’ve experienced this both sides and never encountered someone not willing to share their views. You also benefit from seeing in action. Trying buggies in the shop just isn’t the same.
