Is there such a thing as a cheapie double stroller for holidays?

Going to continent for family sunshine holiday in a few weeks. DC are three and one. Would use a stroller/buggy for airports, going out for meals in evening (walking to restaurants), bringing stuff to pool/beach, dc to sleep if they fell asleep while out (so individual seats to recline preferable).

When we went with one dc, dh didn't want to take "good" travel system, so we bought a "cheapie" single stroller (at around £55, I thought it might have been around £30, but not so!!!).

This time dh still doesn't want to take "good" travel system (which does have double). I know we could buy travel case and take it but I can't convince dh. Either way, I need a new option.

I've been looking online for "cheap" double stroller, but they all seam to be at least £120!! Am I missing something, is there really no other option????
Have looked at ebay - nothing suitable for sale in my region.
Have been following gumtree - but people seem to be charging a LOT eg. one person has advert for second hand Joie pink/blue reversible seat double stroller (advertised as RRP £140, but I see it regularly selling for £120 in shops) and second hand she wants £100!!!!

Any tips were I can get one?

I got mine from a Facebook selling page - £50 for a second hand maclaren double.

mammyoftwo · 06/04/2018 13:29

I have joined a couple of fb selling pages, purely for the purpose of trying to find a second hand one, but they just seem full of utter tat! Haven't seen a double stroller come up yet, will keep looking!

I just can't believe a "cheapie" one isn't on the market, for this type of use: short use, on holidays for a couple of weeks, then sell on (wouldn't want to keep a second double in the house).

Could you not buy another single stroller and use the one you already have - and push one each?

PotteringAlong · 06/04/2018 13:36

I agree, just take 2 singles.

restingbemusedface · 06/04/2018 13:36

Look on twins selling groups - they always have double strollers for sale (twin mum here - on lots of twin selling pages)

keeppassingtheopenwindows1 · 06/04/2018 13:38

I bought a double baby jogger on Facebook for £50 for this very reason. Keep an eye on local pages- maybe post an 'in search of' post

baby-travel.uk.com/products/zeta-citi-twin-stroller-buggy-pushchair-black-double-stroller

Any good? We have the single version for travel and it has a great sun canopy and folds flat for naps which I like. Not super robust - it’s done 3 holidays and now jams a bit on one side on the recline but still useable and for the price I didn’t expect much more tbh!

Agree - use the 'better' stroller you already have for 1yo and buy also/Tesco/Asda cheap £20 one for the 3yo.

Lots of brilliant ideas here, off to check out the links!

Thanks for the links, some great ones here (including free delivery on one of the doubles!).

Most of the twin groups I've found seem to have English base, I'll keep looking for more local regional ones.

Some thoughts and questions
re: taking two single strollers Vs one double stroller...................

Am trying to weight up the pros and cons of each option

Airport
We're allowed bring three pieces of hold luggage. Current thoughts are two suitcases and one backpack. So originally we were thinking one adult pushes double buggy with backpack on their back. Second adult pulls two suitcases.
Just wondering how that would work with two single strollers?

Going out for meals
Presumably it would be easier to "park" and find space etc for two singles, rather than a double?

Bringing stuff to pool/occasional daytime sleep
Bringing two singles would make it easier for one parent and child to go down early/come up early/go for a walk to go to sleep etc? However, if BOTH dc needed to go for a walk in the pram etc, then it would mean both parents would need to leave the pool??!!! Whereas if we had a double both dc could be put in it, and one parent could have a relax by the pool childfree :)

Is there anything I've missed? What would you consider the most important factors to consider?

(Don't know if it's relevant, but owing to dates we're due to be away, if I'm not in the early stages of pregnancy by then I'll be having AF, including nightmarish first 36 hours; extremely heavy flow, low energy, feeling unwell.)

Another question!
RE: sunshades on a double stroller

I have one single black sunshade already for use on the existing "cheapie" stroller
(something like this

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stroller-Buggy-Pushchair-Sun-Sleep-Cover-Baby-Sun-Shade-Canopy-Sunshade-New-/160842140543)

Does anyone know if I could use two of these types of sunshades on a double stroller? (meaning I'd only have to buy one more single sunshade)
Or would I have to buy a double sunshade? (if that exists?)

Thanks!

I have no experience of doubles so the only thing I can answer is about suitcases and pushchairs... I travelled alone and managed backpack, pushing pushchair with one hand and suitcase with the other (a 4-wheeler so it could roll alongside me!) Not exactly effortless but you don’t have the suitcase for long either end hopefully...

Thanks!

Have you seen the pushchair connectors that connect two umbrella type buggies together? Honestly they have fairly crap reviews but if you only need them for airport and possibly the occasional walk they might fit the bill?
They’re made by “prince lionheart”

mammyoftwo · 08/04/2018 20:02

No moggle, I've not seen that! Sounds fantastic for occasional use like a few days on holidays. I'll check that out now!
