As usual, on holiday and DH currently at urgent care centre with sick 9 yo, think bacterial tonsillitis.

We have to get 2 trains the 150 odd miles home tomorrow, with fair bit of walking in between.

Looking into hiring a car but doesn't look great, so thinking of buying a buggy to transport him in and then sell on when we're home.

He's about 54lb, anyone think of anything I could buy from Argos/John Lewis today? Or any other ways to get him home I'm missing? Drive would be about 4 hours, and likelihood of him puking great so rules out taxi.

Thanks

Baby jogger mini GT might be a good bet, have a look on bestbuggy.co.uk, they have pictures of older children sitting in different buggies.

Hope he feels better!

Sorry to hear this. If he is hospitalised, will the hospital offer transport?

ShortandAnnoying · 02/04/2018 08:01

A long trip on a train sounds like it wouldn't do him any good why not stay at your hotel until he is a bit better and the antibiotics kick in at least a bit.

GayParee · 02/04/2018 08:05

Thanks, I am looking and that may be an option but then the cost of new train tickets is ridiculous, we can't transfer ours to another train. DH may have to leave with other DC's tomorrow as planned and then drive back up to pick us up next day.

He just wants to be home though bless him, it is so sad :(

I would go with your DH takes the others home, you stay and get picked up a day or two later. Bacteria tonsillitis is horrible, whole body can be painful Sad

Mrscog · 02/04/2018 08:28

Have you got plenty of calpol and ibuprofen to alleviate symptoms? I find taking then together v effective when I’m suffering with severe tonsillitis - still feel drained but can function at a level.

InMySpareTime · 02/04/2018 08:30

Can you trawl charity shops locally for a wheelchair? There are usually a few on my local high street.
It's not the width of a 9 year old that would preclude most buggies, it's the leg length. He'd have to hold his feet up or have them pretty much under his chin the whole time, which would be really uncomfortable.

Leyani · 02/04/2018 08:31

I'd try really hard to get a hire car, only way you'll make it back today in any kind of comfort. Failing that, stay over. Honestly, don't go for complicated and probably overcrowded train journeys, it'd be horrible for him

GayParee · 02/04/2018 08:38

Update, there is blood in pee and they suspect appendicitis, they're testing him again in hour and then may send to hotel. Throat is bad but he doesn't fit new antibiotic criteria (ie not yet been a week). So, buggy looks redundant now, suspect sine will train back and the rest hotel/hospital and then hire car when better.

For first five years of DC's lives we ended up at hospital/drs ever holiday so think ourselves lucky to have managed to escape for a while!

Thanks though

Sorry to hear that but hopefully they will look after him in hospital.
