Double recommendations

Eldest will be just under 2 when baby arrives so I'm pretty certain we will need a double. I'm not keen on buggy for eldest and sling for newborn as I struggle to bend down and reach for stuff with a sling and can see myself really struggling to handle a buggy whilst wearing one.

Which would those with similar age gaps recommend? I initially looked at second hand icandy peach (was considering it because there are so many potential configurations) but it seems like it will also be really heavy and a pain getting in and out of the car. I was thinking Phil and teds dot looks like a good compact option but am interested to know what others have liked.

Am open to second hand as I don't see the point in spending so much for the first 6-9 months plus I have a single I'm really happy with when eldest is walking.

I’m in a similar position, with a slightly wider age gap. Baby is 7 weeks and I’ve been using a sling for him as 2.3yr old is still using the buggy, but I do find it hard going not being able to bend down, fumbling around for the rain cover in the basket while the heavens open. It’s also having nowhere to put him so I can just pick the toddler up if she falls at the park. A quick hug and she’d usually be raring to go again but me taking longer than usual, and giving her an inferior sideways hug is causing upset a bit. Also really happy with my current single so don’t want to sell. Decisions!

I had 2 year gap and Phil and Ted's (2nd hand and held value well When sold on) was incredible never regretted it! Easy to push and both children always happy

Mine had 20 months between them and I had a bugaboo donkey which I loved. I could push both children in it one handed round the shops carrying a basket too. Also good resale value.

Thanks for the replies.

@BustopherJones I am going to be in exactly the same boat, I can see myself having identical struggles when out with both so I'm keen to have somewhere to put them both. Thing is i won't need it for more than first 6-8 months so don't want to spend too much, will keep my single and go back to that when eldest is happy with buggy board.

@icklekid which Phil and teds one did you buy? I'm also keen on second hand route as it won't be for long but I feel I will need it.

Thanks for recommendation @2choose. Unfortunately it's out of my budget (even when second hand). If I had twins, I would have invested in it without a doubt but I can't justify the cost for such a short period of time.

We had the sport. A friend had a newer smaller one (dot?) Which was amazing when oldest was little but not so good now nearly 4. Mine used buggy board or scooter before hers though

They are the 2 models we've been looking at. Think I'm going to find a shop that has them to compare then look on second hand sites.

I just noticed a similar thread to this in pregnancy topic and a few have recommended mountain buggy and out and about doubles too so will try see them in store as well

@riddles26 I’ve been going back and forth with it. If we had a garage or something where we could keep it then I’d get a cheap one and great even if not used that much, but we’re in London in a flat, and I don’t want to sell our single, only to have to buy a second hand single in the not too distant future.

But also don’t want to struggle for months!

riddles26 · 02/04/2018 10:41

Ahh that's really annoying. We are also London but greater - zone 4/5 so we have a house with garage fortunately. Do you have any family or friends within a couple of hours of you that could store your single at their place for a few months? I wouldn't hesitate to do it if I had a close friend in your situation

I hadn’t even thought of that! Our parents aren’t nearby but I bet they’d have space, and that sort of widens the area I could buy one from, too! You’re a genius!

Perfect! Definitely get a slim second hand double if it's going to make your life that much easier (sounds like it really will make a difference).

I'm still leaning towards a Phil & Teds - mountain buggy is quite a bit more expensive and I can't see many second hand available (although I will keep an eye out) and I've read a few things about Outandabout ones having issues with punctures which has put me off. Im going to have a play with both in shops once I've had my 20 week scan with a view to getting something soon after.
