Bugaboo donkey

Hi all
Just joined to ask some advice about getting a bugaboo donkey.
Currently expecting Dd1 and would like to have another baby by the time she is 10-12 months so a bugaboo donkey would be the best for us. But im worried about the storage issue as we live in a 2 bed apartment which has a small cupboard to store the pram in and a large land rover car boot but still worried about getting it in and out of the door and having to disassemble and re assemble it everytime we come in and out from our walks. Is it easy to assemble and disassemble ? Also how easy is it to get in and out of shops and through doorways etc ? It looks huge ! Really has to be a parent facing side by side pram so don't really know anything else that would work besides it ?
Thanks

I'd buy for the situation you have now, not for one you may have in the future.

Get a Bee. It's fab, and sounds as if it works for what you need at the moment.

When/if #2 comes along you can reassess, sell the Bee or keep for later.

I have a 2.5yr gap, so v different to your plans but the Bee works for us perfectly with this gap. So glad we didn't have to use a double

Reading with Interest, how did you ladies find the donkey when just using it as a single with the side basket?? Especially around the shops?? I can see how great it would be out on walks etc but practicality?? I'm in a similar position op, thinking about the future and a pram I could potentially use with two children.

I also don't rate the donkey - it's massive! I have a Tiguan which has a huge boot and I had to take the wheels off to get it in - really disappointing.

I have got a Hybrid Edge now - it does convert to a double and they are stacked, but it's a really great peice of kit.

anatidae

It's easy peasy to fold, and fits no worse than my single pram.

But I also think pink makes a very good point.
It is wide. Which you get used to when you have 2+ and nothing is streamlined/delicate/elegant for a while.

But there's no need to have a clumsy, clunky thing and all the inconveniences it bring with your 1st.

I do have to avoid little shops and cafes these days because I'll literally be blocking either the door or the aisle.
Sometimes I just leave them all outside 🎉

I don't know much about double buggies but don't assume your dc will want to be parent facing. My daughter hates parent facing as she is super nosey and just wants to properly see what's going on all the time. Luckily my pram can face either way.

Whenever I've seen people out with the donkey I've always thought god that's big. I've never tried it myself though.

Sparklesdontshine · 26/02/2018 21:27

I hated my donkey! It's so heavy and wide, and dismantling it to get in the boot used to drive me mad Angry

I have one and I love it.
Doubled up its about the size of a wheelchair so fits through most 'modern' doorways.

It's nice to push , does exactly what I want and if I only have one child with me I can reduce it to a single.

It's massive to store and I have a Volvo XC90 and it takes up most of my boot but it's worth it x

We used the cocoons for the mountain buggy duet for the first few months for parent facing.. my twins love watching the world going by being world facing now..

I've got both the cosatto to and fro and the bugaboo donkey.
Cosatto to and fro is a bit flimsy (lots of twist/give in the frame) but is very narrow which means it fits in shops, on pavements and the umbrella fold is handy. We bought the car seat which made it into a travel system which was handy - though this can only be used when the buggy seat is forward facing. So you'd have to change it over to forward from parent facing before attaching the car seat.

The parent facing mode is lie flat only and my child is incredibly nosy, she DESPISED lying flat in it so we had to use it forward facing from about 5 months (she was sitting quite well unaided by then).

I'm pregnant with my second, there'll be a 16 month gap between the two so we plumped for the donkey as I wanted side by side with the choice of parent/world facing and not up and over.
I find the quality is great but yes the taking the seat and basket off (when in mono mode) is a pain and folding the pram can be frustrating (and almost impossible to do without scratching the chassis affecting resale value) but once it's up I love it, it's smooth to push, great across loads of terrains and feels solid compared to the cosatto. However, in mono mode it's really wide, there are shops we can't go into with it as it's just too wide, not sure I'm looking forward to tackling that in duo mode!
If I were you I'd look at good quality second hand ones and not spend out too much on something you may find impractical. There are some out there that are virtually unused.

DH has suggested getting a sling wrap and wearing Dc2 while Dd1 rides in the pram but im worried the baby will fall out of the sling if im hoiking them and a pram up and down 2 flights of stairs each day

The baby definitely won't fall out of the sling OP, have a look at how some of the stretchy wrap ones work and you can see the baby is really tucked in there.

Buggy and sling is a good idea and once the baby is a bit bigger DC1 could go on a buggy-board and baby in buggy.

SprinkleSomeSparkles · 28/02/2018 16:24

When people talk about the hassle of taking the donkey apart to fold is that the same as the cameleon and buffalo? My sister has these and I'm familiar with them but I'm still edging towards the donkey, cautious as it's expensive if it doesn't meet my needs! Any feedback really appreciated.

Anatidae · 28/02/2018 16:27

Christ no. Don’t just have a sling.

Look slings are great for loads of stuff, but if you’re on your feet all day and carrying shopping you need to be able to not sling. Dh needs to be disabused of that thought ASAP!

(Awaits usual posters pointing out they carried their quadruplets until they were ten and that anyone who doesn’t is a distant ice mother...)

Bugaboohelp · 28/02/2018 19:03

I don't see anything wrong with slings Hmm i don't do shopping offline and if i did it would be under the pram while i pushed it. Im not on my feet all day so the only time we'll be venturing out is for our daily walks together and to visit family etc
Dd1 will be walking by 2yrs anyway provided she has no issues stopping her so the baby can take her place in the pram at that point
