Travel Systems: why do people trade them in?

We're expecting our first baby in April and are researching travel systems and hunting for the one we want in used condition to save ourselves some money.

However, while we're looking we notice a lot of the ones we're keen on (that are meant to be suitable from birth to age 3 or 4) are being sold on when they're less than a year old. We're wondering why this might be? It's not just Cosatto (the range we are most keen on) but travel systems in general.

If we're only going to sell it on pretty soon we would possibly rather buy for each stage as we reach it and save ourselves some space/stagger the cost.

What's you guys' experience and thoughts on this?

I definitely carried on using mine, I did get a lightweight buggy as well, but I used the travel system right until he stopped using a pushchair at all.

Obviously at some point you stop using it with the car seat on but I never found that to be the big selling point of the baby pram anyway. I liked the two way seat, the big basket and the big wheels. It seemed more comfy and cosy for a toddler as well as a baby and it was more comfortable to push. Strollers are fine, but they have other advantages, mainly being size and lightness.

I don't like carrycots, I think they are pointless. I prefer to get a travel system which has a lie flat seat from birth. Then you get better value for money as well. Otherwise I think you're paying so much extra for a part you use for about four months and probably half of that time you use the car seat anyway!
