Currently pregnant with DC2 with a 10 year age gap!

Looking buy a second hand travel system. I walk a lot and have weak wrists so need some thing that is light and easy to push even one handed across a variety of terrains. Not much true off roading but I do have 2 dogs and the pavements around here are pretty rubbish. Of course everything feels light and fluffy in the showrooms!

Would like a parent facing seat for after carrycot/car seat phase. I am also likely to have a c section.

There are lots of UppaBaby Vistas around but it does look massive. DD uses a Powerchair and am worried we would take up the entire street if we tried to go anywhere together!

Also been looking at Bugaboo Cams but they look so low down. I am 5ft 7 will I struggle post C section? Also having to take the seat etc to fold.

What else can I look at or are these 2 the only options?

I'd go for a Bugaboo Bee. It's very lightweight, parent facing and now has a carrycot for the newborn stage as well.

Enidblyton1 · 25/08/2017 15:38

Congrats on your pregnancy!!
I'm 5ft7 and didn't have a problem with the height of the Bugaboo Frog (same as chameleon). The Bee would be lighter and easier to manoeuvre one handed, but they are tiny, so you might find that too low for you.
Did you look at the Stokke? A total monstrosity to look at, but it's high up and supposedly easy to steer.

Kaffiene · 25/08/2017 16:08

Thanks!

I discounted the Bee as a more urban pushchair? More suited to shorter walks, commuting, on and off buses for example? Such small wheels, how does it cope with loose stones etc? I see it does have suspension though which would help with wrist fatigue.

Stokke looks sooo tipable, the weight looks so high up. I have a lovely 2 year old daft spaniel. I would worry she would jump up (although she is calming down) and knock the thing flying 🙈

Keep em coming though

Best buggy in the world imho is the baby jogger city mini you can attach car seat and it's easy fold light and so light to steer
BUT
front facing only which I do wish it wasn't but used it for 3 years with ds1 and now again with ds2.

3boys3dogshelp · 25/08/2017 16:13

I had a Bugaboo Cameleon as my third and last pushchair. I loved it. I'm 5'10" and found it really comfortable to use. Might be heavy to lug in and out of car if you have a section though.

user1493413286 · 25/08/2017 16:14

I have a bugaboo cameleon in part because it's the lightest pram we looked at which I needed after my c section. Most prams you have to manually move the seat unit to go from world racing to parent facing but with the bugaboo you only have to move the handle so you can go from parent to world facing with the baby in the buggy.
The carry cot is much longer than some other ones so has a longer life and I haven't found it too low at all.
It's also good for rough terrain.

Pollaidh · 25/08/2017 16:18

Uppababy vista is great.

There's another, smaller lighter uppababy you could try.

HelloSquirrels · 25/08/2017 16:24

i had a joie chrome and it was brilliant when ds was tiny it was quite good on dodgy pavements and very light. parent and forward facing - can use a carry cot but seat is suitable from birth and in hindsight i wouldnt bother with the carrycot. Car seat was one of the nicest comfiest looking ones i had seen and lasted ages. I bought their next size up car seat too because i was so impressed.

folds up in one piece with the seat on too which is a bonus.

HelloSquirrels · 25/08/2017 16:25

ive had a cameleon as well and i found that very heavy and crap to fold down.

AlbusPercival · 25/08/2017 16:26

Yoyo zen?

doleritedinosaur · 25/08/2017 16:28

Quinny Buzz, not sure if the Moodd is as light weight but mine is & I've picked up mine secondhand.
You can get the carrycot then have parent facing/outward facing.
Also folds up flat with wheels removed & my wheels have coped with being pushed around a muddy woods.

SoftBlocks · 25/08/2017 16:30

Bugaboo Bee, so light and manoeuvrable.

SarahJonesS · 25/08/2017 16:31

I have a bee, I love it, unbelievably easy to push, however I find it is hard to push over cobbles and deep shingle.

kshaw · 25/08/2017 16:40

I'm tall too and have a mamas and papas armadillo flip xt. Love it and so glad got it!

NotMyPenguin · 25/08/2017 16:48

The Uppababy Vista doesn't actually look huge in person -- I often find myself admiring them when I see them.

I have the Bugaboo Cameleon (last time around I had a third-hand Bugaboo Frog) and they are great. Easy to manoeuvre, very smooth ride. I am 5'4" but the Cameleons have extending handles so should be ok for a taller person too. However the actual buggy is relatively low. The seat of the Vista is definitely higher, so would be closer to you for chatting to the baby etc.

The Bugaboo Bee definitely seems very small and low to the ground; I haven't even gone for it and I'm a short arse!

You can find second-hand Cameleons relatively easily, and spare parts are also easy to find. It's all modular so you can replace bits with very little fuss. They are somewhat fiddly to learn how to fold up at first but I got used to it and never found it a problem.

Not sure how available the Vistas are, or what the pricing is. They look lovely though and I would be seriously tempted particularly if I were taller -- but alas, they won't fit in my hall! (Just...)

user1499786242 · 25/08/2017 16:50

Chameleon is heavy in my opinion
I have a bad back and struggle to push it
Bee is much lighter but not great on anything other than a pavement!

DeathMetalMum · 25/08/2017 16:54

Another vote for a quinny buzz. Loved mine, also bought it second hand it was a dream to push. Often pushed one handed while holding on to dd1s hand with no issues. It did start to get heavy when dd2 got somewhere between 12/18 months but most prams tend to about the age anyway.

babynelly2010 · 25/08/2017 17:34

I got britax affinity recently. It is not the lightest in weight but it pushes so so light. It got wheel suspension and can do light offroading. You can them so cheap second hand as they came up with britax affinity2 now.

Kaffiene · 25/08/2017 18:28

Lots of ideas - thanks!

I do love babyjoggers and used an Elite until DD was 5. But did to the amount of walking I do I really need a pram with a decent parent facing seat.

Locally there seems to be more Vistas around second hand with carrycot, car seat & isofix base included whereas the Cams just seem to be buggy & carrycot if you are lucky.

I have read some reviews and definatly think the Bee is out, just not robust enough.

How stable is the Quinny Buzz, like the Stokke the weight looks high on the 3 wheels.

A friend has an Armadillo Flip & I find it hard to push one handed. Off to look up the Jolie Chrome & Britax.

We do have a wheelchair accessible car so if I didn't have DD with my could just wheel the pram up the ramp if needed in the early days. So many things to think about!

I've used the icandy strawberry from birth, last April, cheaper than the peach, but as I'm expecting in December kind of wish I bought the peach as will be needing a double for sure. Defo glad I didn't buy a beeee.

mummabubs · 08/09/2017 14:59

We've gone with the Mamas and Papas Sola 2. In relation to your needs OP:

  • Significantly cheaper than other 'big brands' (you can buy them new for under £300)
  • Sooooo much lighter than an iCandy, definitely one hand manoeuvrable (I have a dog lead in one hand!)
  • Parent facing seat and lies down completely flat so can be used from birth 😊
Fekko · 08/09/2017 15:04

We had a bugaboo frog and it was brilliant. I also have a bad back and found it a doddle to push and manoeuvre (and bounces up and down steep steps).

It was a sod to collapse though - since I don't have a degree in engineering - so we never really did.
