Which Double buggy for tall 4.5 yr old and 2yr old?

Hi
Can anyone recommend a good lightweightish about town and holiday DOUBLE buggy that my 4.5 yr old can fit in, she's quite light but tall. I'm after a side by side one as my City Select isn't great for them because of leg room for both girls.
Many thanks :-)

Just btw you can get seatbelt extender straps for the mountain buggy duet - look on the actual mountain buggy website. Definitely helps if using it for a slightly older child.

Chelsea26 · 16/07/2017 19:54

We have the out and about nipper and it's really good. My ginormous 6 year old can still fit in it (he doesn't, for all the judgey pants, but could). It's also really light even with 2 kids in it.

MyCalmX · 16/07/2017 19:57

I'm so glad you're ignoring the unhelpful comments OP. My ndn told when dd1 was 3.5 she shouldn't be in the pram anymore as her dgd didn't use one Hmm

I said when dd1 gets driven around the same way her dgd did I'd think about it.

camelfinger · 16/07/2017 19:57

I agree that a baby jogger mini would be good as the seat is really roomy.
It's hilarious how people get sniffy about 4 year olds in buggies but happily bundle them into a car seat (surely just a buggy with no wheels) for a mile-long journey.

roodienoodiefoodie · 16/07/2017 20:02

We've got a mountain buggy duet. It's the same width as our uppababy single so it is narrow. I'm not sure it'd be big enough for you.
We found John Lewis really helpful for buggy advice (but bought elsewhere ) could you go and try some?

roodienoodiefoodie · 16/07/2017 20:03

And I've nearly sliced my toes off a few times with the metal kick board at the bottom when it's folded.
But it's lovely to push on and off road.

Lovelilies · 16/07/2017 20:09

Place marking as wondering about this for 1 and 3.5 yo.
Been managing with sling and single but 3.5 yo often doesn't want to walk!

Note3 · 16/07/2017 21:55

Camelfinger - amen to that! I had many many comments about how "I stopped needing a buggy by the time they were 2" yet like you say they were in reality using their car for everything so of course they didn't need a buggy!!!

When my 5yr old was ill (she was on 98th centile at at 5 was in age 7-8 clothes) she fit in the single city jogger buggy to do school run. Admittedly it was snug and heavy but that's how roomy they are. Mine fit comfortably in out baby jogger when they eldest was 4.5 (91st centile) so you should be fine too

Thank you @RelaxMax - this is very useful information for me! Going to go buy some strap extenders. Was wondering how I'd fit in dd when she's 2.5 in winter & wearing thick coats!

IceLollyInThePaddlingPool · 17/07/2017 07:47

Unless we're doing a lot of busy roads, I just use the bumper bar and don't bother with straps, is that terrible? Obviously the baby is strapped in!

Sherbertfizzer · 17/07/2017 08:34

Such great comments. Thanks everyone.
Didn't know could get strap extenders RelaxMax,
Ice lolly-no I don't use straps for older child either if flat walk to town, only for bumpy hilly areas.
Mycalmx-Ive only had a couple of comments and they both been from old people! but I've said the same as Camelfinger about children being driven about here and there in car seats , at least mine are getting a bit of fresh air and she loves walking, it's only when she gets tired and if I could jump in too sometimes , I would lol
I've seen so many older school age kids sitting in with their young siblings for the ride to or back from school.
Hazyjane & Chelsea26 the out and about looks good too, Ive added it to my list to see if it comes up along with mountain buggy or city mini, I don't want to and can't afford to buy new at this stage.
Thanks again for all your comments and support , it's nice to know that the majority of mums still stick together and want to help each other instead of trying to make us feel crappy about what we do to make the day run a bit smoother!

Just checked eBay and mountain buggy urban seems to be their cheapest double, that ones really big too. One just went for £40.

yellowgymball · 17/07/2017 08:50

No advice on buggys, but following for myself!

Also scrolled through waiting for someone to pounce on the shocking revelation that some kids take longer than others to keep up with walking longer distances and therefore sometimes need a buggy.

It's usually the judgemental twats that comment negatively on other people's parenting choices, that are actually doing something similar that makes their own life easier. For example I know a few parents who witter on about not needing a stroller but use the car for every single tiny trip.

I drive, but as we are a 1 car family this isn't an option every day for me.

I can tell you now, when I have a 3.9 year old starting school nursery at 8:45am and a 1 month old baby I will certainly not be cajoling her all the way the mile long walk to school every day. I am undecided yet but I will definitely be getting a cheap double buggy, or a buggy board, for those journeys. I quite frankly can't be arsed with that stress so early in the morning and would rather she has the option to ride along if she is tired or just being slow.

Would love anyone to say anything about it to my face Grin

minipie · 17/07/2017 09:00

I have a tall 4.5yo and a 2yo and we have a 360 nipper. (4.5yo does have mobility issues, not that it's anyone's business!) It's fab. So easy to push. PITA to fold but luckily I never really have to.

We also use a Bee with buggy board, it works but it's quite hard to push with 30kg of children on it!

I also have a Phil and Teds and wouldn't recommend it if the second child is over 1 really

My DD1 had mobility issues but if yours doesn't and only needs a rest occasionally I would probably choose a buggyboard. You need a buggy with a large space between handle and buggy seat for it to work well though.

minipie · 17/07/2017 09:01

Sorry just to be clear I meant the nipper double ^

skyzumarubble · 17/07/2017 09:25

Baby jogger city mini is fab - my twins were in it up until they were 4ish and there was still plenty of room in it and the hoods are brilliant sun shades

xyzandabc · 17/07/2017 09:31

I would also recommend a nipper 360. We had both the double and single versions. Easy to push even when fully loaded with 2 heavy preschoolers. Even occasionally gave 6 yr old a seat on the footplate if we really needed to get somewhere.

Most we ever managed was 5 in it, after a long day off road walking. 2x5yr olds in seats, younger sibling each on their knees and then 5th child on the footplate. Now that was heavy to push but they thought it was hilarious!

bamummy2 · 17/07/2017 09:56

The sit and stand seems perfect for what I need! Does anyone know where to get it in the uk?

Snafflebrain · 17/07/2017 10:05

@bamummy2 try looking at joovy caboose as they're very similar and pop up on ebay/Gumtree. I had one with my 2 DC. Not as nice to push as a duet but so good for when DC want to hop on and off as needed.

ncbacktoblack · 17/07/2017 10:25

Sorry but I broke my ankle at 5 and felt embarrassed to be waded into the doctors on a buggy even at that age!

IceLollyInThePaddlingPool · 17/07/2017 13:37

If the child is heavy I find buggy boards are an absolute bastard to push on grass, kerbs, basically anywhere except an airport.

Newmumtobabyno1 · 20/07/2017 13:33

The new Babyjogger city select LUX comes out this summer and it has the option of a jump seat with foot rest for older children. It also comes with a storage tote that you can click in where the second seat would go if you were just using as a single Smile

Kimber2 · 23/07/2017 22:06

Having a buggy would be useful especially if you are travelling or your DD will end up asking to be carried just like my one when she gets sick of it. So I had to settle with a buggy as well for the same reason.
You can try a Britax B-Agile double at Amazon

Lovelilies · 24/07/2017 21:16

Just got this beaut for £30!
Had it out today and my 3.5 yo and 13m old loved it, super easy to push!
