Do I really need a double buggy?

Hi,
I am pregnant with our second child and when they are born my eldest son will be 2 years and 4 months. Lots of people have mentioned that they had to get a double buggy with this age gap and I am just wondering if I should. We have a lovely Silvercross Wayfayrer, which I love and we bought in ender neutral colours as we didn't know the sex of the baby first time around. I don't really want a double buggy as I feel they are so large and will take up any room I do have. What do MN think?

No. i have 3 kids all 1year 9 months apart from each other.
i do have a double but i very rarely use it. invest in a buggy board or maybe something cheaper in second hand.
but it also depends on how much time you spend outside, if you're very active your little one will probably get tired and will need to sit.

I'm in exactly the same position and wondering the same thing.. Have you seen the Buggypod? It's like a little side car that you can attach to your existing pushchair as and when you need it. It looks like the perfect solution so was going to start a thread and see if anyone has one and what their thoughts are.
Not particularly cheap but might be he ideal solution?

I saw the buggy pod but didn't think it looked particularly sturdy or safe. Decent double was a much easier option.

So I didn't want one (2 year +1 month) age gap however when dd arrived I quickly changed my mind. She slept so well put down I didn't always want to use a sling. Ds still naps and gets tired on way back from toddler groups in morning. I found I didn't feel I could just pop out without the double where as now I can!

Ps. We got a phil and teds 2nd hand for £40 so can sell it on for the same hopefully!

I bought a double buggy when I found out I was pg with number 2. DS1 was only 16m old when DS2 was born so I thought I would need it.

We used it twice.

I used to chuck a sling under the pushchair so if DS1 got tired (which was rare, he loved walking on his reins), he could go in pushchair and DS2 could go in sling. Didn;t need to do that very often.

Had 25 months between DS2 and DS3. Didn;t bother with double buggy then either.

I think it completely depends on the child. Would a buggy board be suitable?

I had ds2 when ds1 was 17.5months old. Used the double buggy about 3 times and have now sold it. It was a britax dual, older ds on top, baby ds on bottom.

Ds1 much happier in stroller whilst ds2 in sling. Or ds2 in stroller and ds1 holding on waking beside. (Ds1 is feral and I was quite wary of him bolting off, had him on reigns for extra security but hasn't tried to run off yet...)

You'll soon find out what works for you, double buggys generally hold their value if you buy second hand so you should be able to sell it on without being too much out of pocket if it doesn't work for you.

2 years 3 months between mine and I am managing with a buggyboard but double would probably have been easier. Trouble is, toddler hates the pushchair now even though he'll whine going up hills or on longer walks.

We've gone for a second hand Phil and Ted's, like icklekid. Also got a second hand buggy board. So we'll just try a few combinations and see what works. I reckon we can sell the double on again easily enough if we end up not using it.

I have a two year 2 month age gap and I couldn't live without my converted icandy peach double! It makes life so easy to be able to put two year old in a buggy when trying to shop or go on walks. Especially as I'm breastfeeding I need somewhere safe to strap him while I'm feeding the new born.
