Yet another pushchair dilemma...HEEELLLPPP!

I'm sorry that I can't find the answer to my question without starting a new thread, I know that MN is brimming with pushchair advice - but we just can't make-up our minds.

Every time I make a decision it is undermined by reading a bad review, or looking at the exact spec of the basket...

Wish list

  • Be suitable from birth until she doesn't need to be in a pushchair anymore
  • Be light, easily foldable and suitable for London (easy to get on and off
    buses/tubes/kerbs)
  • Have a good size basket (we don't have a car, so I'd like to fit a good load of shopping in there)
  • Have a carseat adaptor (we will travel in friends'/family cars from time to time)
  • Cost up to £600

We will also have a baby carrier (Baby Bjorn style).

First we chose the Silvercross Reflex - light, manoeuvrable, good reviews, good value (it comes with all the bits and bobs), but it's a bit flimsy feeling and has a small basket:

Then we ordered the Silvercross Wayfarer (and then cancelled it) - a bit sturdier, but I read that the front wheels seize up, and it's hard to get up kerbs.

Do I just need to bite the bullet and get an iCandy or Bugaboo?

The britax ones usually have large baskets and aren't enormous

Armadillo Flip from mamas and papas?

Folds small. Big basket. Big seat. Great pushchair.

Another vote for Baby Jogger City Mini or Zip. I had a BJCMGT because I needed it's all terrain abilities for dog walking. When DC got older and only needed a buggy for occasional use (holidays and days out) I traded it in for a Zip. While I prefer the GT, the Zip is light, manoeuvrable, tiny when folded yet generously proportioned when open. My massive 4 year old (the size of a 6-7 yr old) still finds it comfy and will fall asleep in it sometimes. Basket isn't the biggest but not small either and is soft and stretchy and more easily accessible than the basket on some other BJCM models.

ShelaghTurner · 14/07/2016 21:30

I'm currently using my zip for my 4.5yo who has broken her leg. It's plenty big enough for her and she had a nice nap in it yesterday waiting at the clinic Smile. The basket isn't massive but it's adequate and the sunshade is huge.

However, my true love is the BJCMGT. For a newborn that's the one I'd go for. Ive seen a few of them naked with the carrycot on. That's new since dd2 was in hers. It's a fab pushchair.

Have you considered the m&p armadillo flip xt?

A huge vote for Uppababy! My Vista was amazing but was crushed when it was hit by a car (baby wasn't in it thank god) I replaced it with an Uppababy Cruz and I loveeee it. I need a big basket and comfy seat and Uppababy give exactly that. They're both amazing to push and the travel bags have insurance so great for taking abroad too.

My friend lives in London and has a Joolz geo and likes it

Ellypoo · 17/07/2016 00:07

Uppababy definitely - I had the vista, amazingly huge basket, dead easy to push etc, DD is a tall 3.3 and still is perfectly fine in it. Comes with everything you need too, v v impressed with it.

Out2pasture · 17/07/2016 00:14

Uppababy fan :) used both the vista and the cruz.....I preferred the cruz

I can not tell you how helpful you've all been, thank you!

DH and I will write up a shortlist of our favourite recommendations, then go and test-run our top four or five.

Your help has been invaluable, thanks again xx

I've got an icandy strawberry and its not super bulky, has a big basket, and folds down with seat intact which is really handy. If using from newborn you have to use the carrycot though and you have to remove this in order to fold down. Also comes with car seat adaptors. It's £595.

FizzyFeet · 21/07/2016 14:25

Glad it's been helpful! Smile

One other top tip - wish I'd done this - take two very heavy bags with you. Put one in the seat and one in the basket/ hanging off handlebar and then test drive it! You'll get a better sense of how it handles up and down bumps and round corners.

BowiesJumper · 21/07/2016 14:59

I've got a mamas and papas armadillo flip. Had a very similar wish list to you and it was the best fit.
Light
Massive basket
Folds really small and in one piece (ie you don't have to take the seat unit off to fold)
Massive hood
Seat faces both ways
Suitable from birth
On budget

I liked the vista but it's fairly big and bulky.

Ffitz · 21/07/2016 15:05

I think you will need 2 prams. One with good wheels and a large basket for walking and a smaller, lighter one when using public transport. You might not be able to use this one until the baby is a bit bigger. I have a Phil and teds that I keep in the house and never collapse and a Maclaren that I keep in the car. Also take the Maclaren on holidays and bus etc. I think this is what most people do eventually if they live somewhere where you walk lots.

We've just bought a Baby jogger city mini and couldn't be happier. A friend whose opinion I really trust recommended it to me on Teepee, my fav new recommendations app, when we were trying to make up our minds. Its compact but sturdy enough. I'd say definitely take a look at it before you decide.
