Could someone please just tell me what pushchair to buy?

DC1 due in Oct.

Was going to be given a pram second hand, but that has fallen through.

I'm tall and want something with a high handle. No idea about lifestyle after baby is here. Drive a focus so have enough boot space for most options I think.

Looked today quite like Stoke trailz and uppababy vista. Favourite was bugaboo buffalo. Mamas and Papas doing a deal on zoom for £200. Financially makes a lot of sense, we hadn't budgeted any money fur a pram. However it felt a bit low to push and have heard basket capacity is low. Don't want a false economy. Also a bit wary of m&p after recalling the armadillo. They have known fur ages and only just recalled.

Could someone please tell me what to buy??

The vista is brilliant but also very expensive. You can definitely spend less for a buggy that will tick nearly as many boxes!

The important questions are:

Do you want the baby to be able to face you past six months?
Do you want the possibility of adding a second seat (if you're planning two under two or three)
Do you want to be able to nip on and off buses?
What sort of terrain will you mainly be using it on? (Where do you live and what's your lifestyle)
Will you be carting lots of shopping around?

Do you want the baby to be able to face you past six months?
No idea? Do I? Seriously is it important? 6 months still seems pretty little to me, but then I guess they also want to see whats going on in the world?

Do you want the possibility of adding a second seat (if you're planning two under two or three)
Not planning it, can't afford it, but who knows! I like the fact that you can raise the seat for second baby, as I will use that with just one, to bring them closer to me.

Do you want to be able to nip on and off buses?
Probably unlikely, haven't used a bus in the three years we have lived here.

What sort of terrain will you mainly be using it on? (Where do you live and what's your lifestyle)
We live in commuter belt. On a main road, So mostly on paths. But like national trust propertiies and hanging out at stables too. DH also has some outdoorsy hobbies we would likely follow him to.

Will you be carting lots of shopping around?
No large shops in easy walking distance, so not likely. But will be walking around shopping centre etc I suppose.

I had an Uppababy Vista, it was brilliant.

If I was doing it all over again I would go for the Vista or a Babg Jogger City Mini. I think the Vista is more refined, better quality etc but the City Mini is very practical for putting in boot of car, going on public transport etc. Vista is more luxurious though in terms of feel, build, looks, push etc

Whyhellodaffodil · 11/07/2016 13:06

We had the mamas and papas zoom and I absolutely hated it - was so wide I couldn't get in some shop doors and barely fitted into our (big) boot. We moved to a mclaren stroller at 6 months...

Heirhelp · 11/07/2016 13:59

We have uppababy Cruz, the light weight city version of vista. It is also cheaper.

I would caution against uppababy if you are tall. My 9 week old baby has out grown the pram and will need to go in the pushchair which is not good for them at this age.

Paddingtonthebear · 11/07/2016 15:43

I think the Vista is bigger overall, my DD slept and was pushed around in the bassinet until she was 4 months, the bassinet is very roomy.

BeenThereTooSEL · 11/07/2016 16:06

We've got an icandy peach- handle extends, good basket space and a year in and we've had no issues. Bloody love it!

minijoeyjojo · 11/07/2016 16:53

If you're thinking of it for stables - I can reliably tell you that it is ideal for putting feeds in the bottom and wheeling them plus a baby out to the field Grin

minijoeyjojo · 11/07/2016 16:53

The vista that is - sorry my brain doesn't work post baby

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 11/07/2016 17:21

I would seriously look at ebay. An awful lot of people spend top whack on a pram and sell it within a year as it's not suitable for two children/their lifestyle. The prams are in perfect condition and still under warranty in many cases.

We had a Stokke Xplory. Was fab and handle can be altered for someone 6ft4 [DH] or 5ft [nanny] by just sliding it down. Mega huge in the boot though so not appropriate for you.
We used it for two kids over 5 yrs and sold it for £250 but I was amazed at how much stuff was available on ebay. Wish we'd been less PFB about it as we would have changed to a P&T for our second child if we hadn't spent so much on the Stokke.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 12/07/2016 20:51

DH and I are both tall and our DD is huge, 98percentile blah blah
She was still fine to go in the bassinet of the Vista way after 6m and at 19m still has tonnes of room in the main pushchair. The only reason we don't still use it every day is that I try to get her to walk more, to tire her out.
The bassinet also collapses well and can be used as a travel cot while they fit in (5/6m) as the base has breathing holes in or something like that.

I would agree the pushchair doesn't lie flat but at the fully reclined position DD has always 'looked' flat iyswim and she slept fucking brilliantly in it until we took her out of it

It does take up a bit of room, so have you got somewhere to store it everyday? It folds up quickly and easily but would be a pain to do it multiple times a day. Ours got left in the hall and tbh it would be very annoying if I had a narrow hall or small living space.

Yes we took her dog walking and round NT places and it was fine.

Heirhelp · 12/07/2016 20:51

The vista and Cruz bassinet are the same size.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 13/07/2016 08:45

And your 9wo has grown out of the bassinet?!?! Cripes!

Artandco · 13/07/2016 08:53

I would actually be tempted to say get a bugaboo bee.

Handle goes high
Folds in one piece so you aren't taking apart every time for car
Can be used for flying easier as one piece
Parent faces
Compact for using shopping

I say this as somebody who had the bugaboo chameleon. We loved it. However it did get heavy once child over 1 year, and was huge to fold. Also a pain when travelling. I would have been tempted to get another smaller pram but both mine walked mainly after 2 years so felt a waste of money. Looking back I would have got the bee as smaller for using folding, with toddlers and in shops.

Get a sling for stables. Any pram will be hard in thick mud

AlbusPercival · 13/07/2016 09:31

Thanks for the advice art, when I tried the bee in the shop it felt like the baby was too low and far away from me.

Leaning toward the uppababy vista, then will use the extenders to raise the main seat closer to me.

I have a Bee (as well as the Buffalo). I love it now that DS is older as it's so easy, and I've bought the carrycot for DC2 due in 2 weeks. But I agree with you, I don't love it for a little baby (but I'm a weirdo!)

But I would totally recommend it for when they're older instead of a stroller (which I also have...Blush) as it's a very good pushchair.

Incidentally I also have an out n about nipper double... Just for you to bear in mind when you get on to having 2 under 2...WinkGrin

Claraoswald36 · 13/07/2016 09:40

I'm hoping for dc3 soon. I'm going to try and manage with the ergo as dds are 3 and 6 and dc3 will be final baby. However after a gazillion stupidly heavy expensive prams if I need one I'm only agreeing to either a bugaboo bee or a bjcm at a push.
All those uppababy/icandy etc are beautiful items which are huge and heavy. Sorry but they are. Don't get me started on the Phil and teds bastard thing either. The only really good one was the bjcm

EsmesBees · 13/07/2016 09:40

Would recommend the Uppababy Cruz. Smaller than the vista so you might get more use out of it in the long run (a lot of my friends with heavier prams switched to lightweight mclarens at one). If you are on Facebook join your local parents selling group. There are always pram bargains on ours.

Paddingtonthebear · 13/07/2016 14:39

Uppababy Cruz is lovely but a harder ride/push than the Vista due to smaller wheels, and the Vista has better suspension. You don't get the bassinet included in the price with the Cruz, and the Vista has more features generally. Cruz a bit more compact though.

I also rate the umbrella stroller that Uppababy sell, the G Luxe. Lovely to push, folds up easily and has a shoulder carry strap, is lighter than an Maclaren and has better design features.

eatingforonemore · 16/07/2016 23:59

I had a vista which was sadly crushed by an idiot driver while I was putting baby in car.
I didn't know whether to get another vista or a buffalo and actually ended up getting a cruz and I love it.

My vista was brilliant too. Huge basket, roomy seat unit, easy fold, nice high seat and carrycot with elevators, beautiful push and easily made into a double.

We are booked to go to Disney world with family soon and instead of buying a seperate pushchair I got the travel bag with the money I was given by insurance for new pram because the bag actually has insurance so if the airline damages the pram it's covered! I wish I still had my vista but I love my cruz too

AlbusPercival · 17/07/2016 19:48

Thanks all, think we are going with the vista. Anyone know of any deals on?

I'm probably a bit late to the party, but I love my M&P Zoom. Just about done me two babies, and still going strong.

The basket is fine, and at 5’8” I use the second from highest handle setting.

Whosthemummy16 · 17/07/2016 19:55

We have a venicci the chrome version. It's been amazing, easy to get up and down curbs and on and off the bus.
It was really reasonable, might be worth a look?

KP86 · 17/07/2016 20:02

If you go for a city mini, get the GT, as it has an adjustable handle. The regular CM does not.

FankEweVeryMuch · 27/07/2016 07:33

We have a cruz and love it. I went for the cruz because DS4 was definite my last so no need for it to be a double.

I loved the bassinet, DS gee out of it by 4 months so we used the inset that Uppababy do for this situation, that can be used with the vista and cruz. My favourite part is the massive basket, it's brilliant especially when I forget bags when I go shopping. I think he vista has an even bigger basket than the cruz.

It seems Uppababy are well loved by everyone going by all the recommendations on this thread.

I went to a local independent shop who did a really good discount for us compared to online shops. If you're in the west/ south west commuter belt area I can give you the name? I'm sure other independent baby shops will be able to do similar though.
