Phil & Teds Sport for a newborn and (lazy) 2.5yr old

I have a Versa GT, which I loved when DS was younger, and a second-hand BJCM, which is preferable to the Versa now - lighter and less bulky.

I'm due around 20 Feb and given that DS (2yrs 5 mths by then) is a slow, dithery walker. He still has at least one nap a day and loves napping in the buggy.

I have various slings but I know from experience that it's not always realistic to keep a newborn/younger baby in a sling all day when out and about (bad weather and my exhaustion/recovery after a section both being factors!) I'll definitely be using a sling but don't really want to have to rely on it as my only option. I sort of feel the same about buggy boards - I think he'd quite like it but the novelty would very quickly wear off when he got tired. Also I'm not sure how well a buggy board would work on the BJCM.

I've been looking at tandem doubles and there's a Phil and Teds Sport for sale near me - how well would this work with a 29 month age gap? It looks as though the lower seat can't recline when the toddler in it is past a certain height, but I don't think that's necessarily a problem for us. Can you get a hood for the lower seat though? And how heavy would it feel to push with two kids of that age gap? (DS is prob just above average height but on the slim side)

I've looked at the BJCS too, which has the added advantage of being able to take our car seat (a BeSafe IZi Go), but it looks bulkier and I prefer the lie-flat seat of the P&T to having to use a carrycot.

If they had a smaller age gap them I'd have got a BJCM double - I bloody love my single - but I think it'll feel lopsided when I've only got one kid in it.

Aagh! Any advice appreciated :)

Hello I'm really sorry to hijack but seems like some of you have some great advice regarding the Sport. I have a P&T classic for DD2. I love it but DS is on the way. Now DD will be 3 1/2 by the time he is born. My concern is a buggy board doesn't fit P&T according to a few reviews I've read. She still naps especially on a day out and isn't a great walker. She is light but long legs. I'm guessing she will be too big for the second seat? And what age does the baby need to be to go in the second seat? I'm sure people will just tell me DD should walk but for long days out she gets really tired. DH works away a lot so will be me and 3 DCs a lot. Any advice greatly welcomed. And yes I do have a sling but I get v hot and baby is due in summer.

Hi Cookies, I've bought the Explorer rather than the Sport but I can't really see a long-legged 3.5yr old being very comfy in the second seat, either above or on top!

Just to clarify, are you planning on slinging the baby and having both your DDs in the buggy? Have you thought about a side--by-side like the BJCM double? Then you could switch all three between it relatively easily.

Thank laquila no my eldest DD is 6. It's just I rely on my pushchair so much for dd2 (who has just turned 3) I can't imagine not using it in 5 months time when the baby comes. I think she will be too big for the double seat? How do people do this combination?! I can't afford it really and it won't be worth getting another pushchair as it won't be used for a long length of time. And I love my Phil&Teds it has so many miles still left in it
