Anyone had a sit n stand double pushchair which doesn't recline?!

Just bought a Baby trend sit n stand double from ebay. I have a 6 month old dd and a 2.9 yr old ds and have been making do with ds in the stroller and dd in the carrier but she's getting rather heavy now. Clearly I didn't research the sit n stand thoroughly enough as it turns out that the front seat (where the younger child is meant to sit) barely reclines at all! It just doesn't make sense to me! The back seat reclines further but the point is that at some point in the not too distant future we would take the back seat away so that ds could use the sit and stand function, which I think is brilliant in theory. I spent so long trying to figure out if we could somehow fit the thing in our car boot that I didn't think to check anything else, and really it just didn't occur to me that the bloody thing would only recline by an inch or so! I mean it's just crazy, isn't it? I don't think I can return it now I've opened it and really I don't know if other affordable double buggies are any better anyway. Plus I loved the idea of the sit and stand. Dd is still so young and definitely needs to be able to lie back and sleep. Anyone had one of these?

Did you buy it new? Can you return it? It doesn't sound fab.

For interest why have you chosen the sit and stand type instead of a standard tandem?

LMonkey · 23/09/2015 20:11

I'm pretty sure I can't return it as it's been opened.

I chose this type because with my toddler approaching 3 I thought it would last longer and be a smoother transition to walking when he wants to walk more (when he actually decides to behave himself when he walks). I thought it would be a good alternative to a buggy board.

I would investigate returning it. Or flog it on eBay. How much did you pay?

We just use a double and don't strap the 3yo in currently - it is a tandem one. She is about to be booted out in favour of a newborn though which is why I ask.

Some of the reviews seem to suggest it does recline a bit, but it doesn't sound like it would have been enough for me.

Sorry if I am not much help, I'm just commiserating with you really.

Thanks! It cost £140, which i know is cheap for a double, but cant afford to lose that money on something crap. Does your tandem recline a decent amount? This one literally reclines by about an inch, its basically still a sitting up position. How is your 3 year old with walking? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to figure out what other people do.

My 3yo is a reasonabley good walker although we don't go too far. My 2yo is also a good walker so we mostly take a single these days and they swap a bit. The double hasn't been used for a few months - partly because I dont want to flare my SPD and therefore we don't do too much, although if we did a whole day out we might take it.

We are looking at a my child sienta for a back up chuck em in pushchair - dead cheap on eBay. We won't need it for naps though as can take the proper double for that (oyster max) - this will be for popping to a shop out of the car with all 3 etc. The front seat barely reclines the back is lie flat.
I'd buy that in your case too maybe if you only want the 3yo to cadge a ride here and there, or else everyone else seems to use a buggy board, but I can't get on with them - awkward pushing position and no use for restraining a child (,dd2) or giving a seat to tired legs.

Do you really need a double? Do you go out for long periods often? We also occasionally use two singles - eg when we are camping and don't want to always use the double.

LMonkey · 24/09/2015 09:34

At the moment we really need a double - my toddler is an absolute nightmare when we are out. He screams that he wants to walk yet if we let him he just flings himself on the floor (wearing reins) and drags himself around making it impossible to go anywhere. I can't deal with that on my own, its bad enough when we're out as a family.

Yes I do tend to go for shopping trips in town, usually walking a mile there and back and then around the shops too. Don't know what I'd do if I couldn't do that.

Uuggh. Don't know what to do now.

Phil and teds?

LMonkey · 24/09/2015 20:15

I have been looking at some Phil & teds on eBay today actually. I never really liked the look of them because it looks like one child is just so tucked away underneath and can hardly see anything?! Also might be too bulky to get in our car boot.

Anyone have a Phil & teds? What do you think of it?
