nearly 3yr old, newborn and dog walking

As per everyone here I'm asking the impossible. Or not?!

recently found out I'm pregnant which will make DS not to far off 3 when baby lands. Most 3 yr olds can walk well I should imagine, but I walk our dogs most days and so usually have my son in pushchair in order to maintain control when crossing the couple of roads to the fields. He can then get out and run around.
I have a Versa which has been ace, but there isn't a clip on 2nd seat. Do I not bother with double and can you control 3 year old from not running off? Do I go with buggy board and hope he doesn't try and hop off and run off.
or do I suck it up and buy a double that would mostly be single with occasional use as second seat?

Buy a sling or carrier? That way ds can stay in the pushchair until a more reliable walker, and you have your hands free.

Sling and then backpack :)

I put reins on my DD aged 2.5 when out with baby as we have to walk along a busy A road until she is set free on the farm track.

I used a carrier for my now 2yo until she was about 11 months when walking my dog.

A pushchair, dog and carrier should be doable and make life easier than a double of any sort I would imagine.

Ours are closer in age but we never got on with sling for the newborn as she hates it and the toddler screams if we try to put him in the backpack as he wants to walk. Reins are ok but tbh we aren't near many busy rds so I just make him hold my hand when we cross (he is almost two and is slowly learning the rules).
We got a double mountain buggy second hand its narrow so fits through standard doors which is good if one is sleeping when you get home.

thanks people. I do in fact have a carrier, but somehow never got on with it that well. Or at least as I have small shoulders found straps slipped. Plus with all the walking, I found it fiddly to put on and off throughout the day. It's a good point though as I had forgotten about it.

Maybe go to a big babycare shop and try some on? I think if you find the right one, it may be a good option, though admittedly it depends on whether you have a C section and how heavy your baby is! Even if you use a carrier or sling for a couple of months, it might just buy you the time you need for your DS to become more reliable out of the pushchair, and they usually hold their value so you would lose little financially. And it is cheaper than a new pushchair!
