double up, buggy board or new pushchair?

Im pg with dc2. Dd 1 will be 18 months when dc2 is born. We currently have an Apple2Pear Icandy pushchair, so just need to by the adapters and and we'd be good to go. I'm just wondering really whether i'll be ok doubling up, or whether she'll be old enough for a buggy board (or will she still want to sleep in the pushchair?) or I buy a double one that is side by side? It just looks a bit of a struggle to manage to get 2 kids in and out of the double ones when they're ontop of each other. Any advice is welcome!

Adaptors and go. Nice one for buying something you can add to. We didn't and it was a massive struggle not initially but when DD started nursery and was just utterly knackered. If we went out as a family on a weekend too there was no where for her to nap if the baby was already in the pram.

There will be a ton of people along to tell you that you can manage fine with just a buggy board.... Except when your 18 month old doesn't want to stand/walk any more and then you are basically f**ked. Not to mention the resentment of being booted out of his pram by a younger sibling.

Or a sling ... this works for about a month or two unless you have the back and stomach muscles of an ox and can be arsed with changing the settings every time your DH carries the baby.

Side by side buggies are tedious to get into shops, buses etc. Or at least the McClaren style are. If you can afford a Donkey or a Mini City type they are more functional.

double.

imagine dawdling with a toddler, in the winter, sleep deprived and in the rain. We had a Phil & teds, total workhorse of a pushchair.

Considering the pushchair you have imo you've got virtually nothing to lose getting the adaptor and baby nest (the main carrycot isn't suitable in double mode iirc). I reckon you will use it but if in the event you don't you can always sell it on. Get a buggyboard, or not or whatever.

I know a few people on here have done fine with no double but they do make life easier (to greater and lesser degrees depending on your lifestyle, personality and dc personalities etc.) I was glad of one with a 2y gap, could have done without sure but glad I didnt Smile

sounds like doubling up our current one is the way forward Grin we already have the carry cot from dd1 which is good and all the other stuff like rain and mozzy covers. hopefully by the time dc2 is in the stroller seat she won't need the pushchair Hmm Confused

Unless you bought the baby nest in the first place instead of the hard carrycot then I'm fairly sure it doesn't work in double mode :-/

My dc1 was 20 months when dc2 was born, we did single pushchair +sling+buggy board, sometimes I end up with the toddler on the buggy board, baby in the sling and pushchair empty Hmm

I'm really glad we went for this option as it's encouraged my lazy toddler to walk more, I was dreading the thought of toddler refusing to go on the buggy board but (touch wood) that hasn't happened so far and we are 8 months in.

we got a plain black carrycot with the pushchair Confused I'm not sure what the nest is Blush

My ds was 17 mo when my dd came along and I got the out n about 3 wheel buggy and I loved it. Fits through all doorways and is really manageable. I have a buggy board for the Quinny and it's awkward. It's ok for really short journeys I suppose but I wouldn't really recommend

Ihateparties · 29/05/2015 20:15

I'm wrong on the name, it's called the newborn nest not the baby nest. It's £95ish and the pip converter and seat appears to be £110 ish. That's your newborn and toddler option on the apple 2 pear. As ever with Icandy you need to buy as many products as humanly possible for it to be suitable at all stages you might need. I resent that so could easily change my mind at this point and change my suggestion to spending £200 on something else entirely...

I have the out n about double and it's amazing. I have 18 months between my sons and the pushchair has been brilliant. They are side by side which I like (I don't like the thought of the other style, doesn't look comfy for either child) and its soooo easy to push, I can use just one hand. Couldn't recommend it enough!!

K8eee · 30/05/2015 07:23

just out of interest what cars do you all have? just had a look at the out and about and I'm not keen on inflatable tyres. my husband works with pedal bikes and the amount of mums he has who come in with flat tyres is countless.

Double up definitely. Sometimes you need to just strap both kiddies in and get going. Especially when by yourself at supermarket etc. Also when I've taken the lightweight stroller for the baby to the park, the toddler always gets upset and resents the baby. So its really not worth the tears and tantrums, much easier to take the double. Plus you don't want your toddler to feel as though they've been shafted by the new baby.
