Car fumes rise. no escape sorry to break it to you Grin seriously who started this myth and has anyone ever bought a pram based solely on it ?

I've heard a few people say this, personally I find low prams sturdier to push for clumsy wee me. A friend was looking at mine online and when I told her she could test mine her first comment was that it was too close to the fumes. Hmm

I'm sure people don't realise this before they have dc but forget car fumes, the real danger is ending up crippled from a bad back! Not sure if that means a higher pram is better (less bending) or a lower one (they can climb in earlier)...

ive heard that old tale too the amount of old women that get frothy at the mouth about children in travel systems that will cripple them instead of been in a "proper pram away from the fumes with room to lay out flat" it amazes me ive yet to see a child crippled by said travel system

Ah see I do hate seeing babies in car seats on prams and there is scientific evidence to suggest that the upright position can lead to oxygen saturation issues so whilst they may not necessarily cripple a child they can cause damage.

Personally, I also don't think they look comfortable in car seats at all anyway.

car seats are fine for that quick pop round the shops but it angers me when i see people getting on the buses with the car seats attached Angry

The only time I've been waiting ever really used the car seat on the buggy was on buses, when I was on my way to a friend's house for an outing and needed the baby's car seat with me.

ShootPeppaPig · 11/05/2015 04:30

It's when a baby is left in car seat for hours at a time (forget how many 2 or 4... Basically all day shopping) it is actually bad for their spine

If a baby is put correctly in the seat, their spine should be straight - but babies wriggle...

So yes, lie flat is much better for their spine

And as mentioned earlier it's better for breathing too.

I'm not sure about the car fumes thing but I would definitely in future buy a higher pram to save both my back and enable parent interaction a bit more which is what I thought they were "sold" as...

Of course I interacted fine with my child with my lower pram, had I not though I may not have developed a bad back Wink

1hr for a newborn ia enough for it to stop breathing
