What's good on snow?

Looking for a pram/travel system that's good on snow. The Spawn will arrive at the start of a Swedish winter and I need something I can get out and about in through snow and ice (and the crushed rock they put over it here.)

The pram doesn't need to be very lightweight or foldable as we have house space and it's more important that it's warm and we can line it with the usual sheepskin etc.

But it would be good if the top bit came off to form a sleeping basket sort of thing... And it'd also be good if it could then turn into a pushchair that isn't the size of an SUV for when the kid is a bit older..

.. Does such a thing exist?

a sling and yaktrax on my shoes when it was icy is what I've done through snowy winters.

Yes there is a toys r us nearish...

We do indeed leave babies out in the snow :) it's very common here to park the pram outside of a cafe while you have your coffee and cake (Fika.) babies are wrapped in multiple layers of course, and on a sheepskin or fur. You put pop them where you can see them out if the window and leave them to it. It was odd the first time I saw it but everyone swears it's good for them and makes them sleep soundly.

Will check out these suggestions - as well as chains and snow tyres! Love the skis!

Baby jogger Versa GT is not bad on snow, and takes a carrycot. It's fairly large but very manoeuvrable and lovely to push because of nicely bouncy suspension and Forever Air tyres.

ive been looking at bebcar prams. not sure about the snow but they are a similar style to the emmaljunga so might do the trick!

YouPooPooBumBum · 03/05/2015 16:39

What about a Bugaboo with snow wheels?

Artandco · 03/05/2015 16:39

Don't get a three wheeler, it's harder to push through tracks as you bed to make three fresh snow tracks where as 4 wheelers you follow the back two wheels trough the front wheels tracks if that makes sense

Look at:

Emmaljunga Viking
Kronan - specifically make for Swedish weather
Chariot stroller- these convert from huge wheel strollers, to having skis on, to bike trailers so very versitile

The kronan city Bla I would recommend most. It has a full carrycot or a soft carrycot insert to make frame, fold quite small, huge off road wheels, not huge huge for toddler age. Faces both ways. It's seen at the Swedish version of bugaboo ( and better for that environment imo)

Not exactly Scandanavian blizzards but our Emmaljunga has done us through 2 Highland winters without any issue :o

We have the City Cross which is relatively small for a proper pram system but handles every bump and all weather terrain easily. Its also very snuggly with a sheepskin and big footmuff as even the sear unit keeps baby enclosed and lies flat.

I'm in Northern Canada. We get lots of snow and temps in the -30s for most of Winter. I had a Bugaboo Cameleon with snow wheels. We've also got a Chariot with the ski kit.

Joolz Geo or Easywalker Mini Stroller or Bugaboo Buffalo or the Cybex Priam has ski's! Nipper, TFK, Bumbleride. There is a lot to be honest if you have a look around.
I wouldn't get anything which has a low rear axle or basket as it can catch on deeper snow.
