Newborn and young toddler pushchair advice

WindYourBobbinUp · 09/03/2015 13:44

I'm pregnant with DC2 and DS1 will probably be 13 months old when they arrive. I was completely baffled by pushchairs last time, this time even more so.

I'd like something small if possible so I can get on buses, out and about but realise this might be difficult. Can newborns go in the bunk bed style ones though? They don't look flat enough to me?

My other thought was to put the newborn in a sling for a while but not sure how long that'll last as a plan as DS1 got quite heavy quite quickly

Any advice appreciated

have a look at a video on YouTube for the icandy peach blossom. They are a single footprint pushchair and I think I may go for that.

The smallest tandem is the phil and teds dot. Newborn and toddler can go in that, it isn't ideal but if small is a big factor then I would definitely look at that.

The oyster max is a nice pram too and cheaper than I candys

NishyM · 10/03/2015 12:17

I got the peach because it can turn into a double on the same footprint, you can't get on the bus with some of these side by side ones!

Tiggywunkle · 14/03/2015 17:45

Look at the Joolz Geo too. The footprint of that is probably as small, if not smaller than the Peach Blossom.

19 month age gap here and no double buggy. DD is a good walker and DS just goes in the sling. I still sling DD at 2 if I need to, although we have a mountain buggy and 2nd hand bee as a car seat chassis. How about looking at a different sling? Bit cheaper than a pram.

WindYourBobbinUp · 14/03/2015 18:53

Thanks all I'll take a look at these! DS was premature so I don't think he'll be walking by then but you never know. What sling do you use for a 2 year old Very?

Following with interest as will be in same position come September. Had a look at the joolz geo in mamas and papas today and it looks lovely, price tag makes me wince though!

WindYourBobbinUp · 15/03/2015 15:17

That's the thing, a lot are lovely but you need a spare grand! Think I might be slinging it...

I currently use my moby wrap for DS (6 weeks) although He is quite a large baby so won't be in it for a long time and I will get a woven wrap. I also have an ergo which will take both DS or DD (23 months) if she is tired. Didn't bother with a double as DD is a fairly good walker and I will sling DS and chuck her in the pushchair if she will allow or more often, her smart trike.
I also have a buggy board on DS's pushchair which DD loves but hasn't used much as DS hates the pushchair so is usually carried ( which I find easier)

Also, keep in mind baby may not like the pushchair. DS hates it hence the sling whereas DD didn't mind it.

My advice would be to use single pushchair and sling for first few weeks to figure out what you want/ need so that you don't waste money.

lentilpot · 15/03/2015 19:56

If you go the sling route something like the connecta or the boba that could be used for the newborn or the toddler would be good combined with a lie flat pushchair so you can mix around.

DanaBarrett · 15/03/2015 19:58

I had a mai tai as well as my single buggy, worked a charm, generally slung baby and pushed toddler x

Dinnerdabbler · 18/03/2015 14:30

Phil and Teds worked well for us with a similar age difference

proceeding · 18/03/2015 14:36

There are 16 months between my pair and DD1 wasn't walking when DD2 arrived. We have the Out and About 360. DD2 was fine in it in a cosytoes (generic one - not branded) when she was teeny.

It wouldn't work on a bus, but you could sling the newborn and put your eldest in a single for that. It does work on trains.

It's incredibly light to push - we don't use it at all now but our CM has basically taken it as she loves it Grin (and we love her more than life itself so are happy for it to continue migrating to her house!). As doubles go, it's also narrow - no problems in shops, in cafés, on narrowish pavements, goes through internal doors in the house.

I couldn't stomach the cost of the Bugaboo Donkey/iCandy (we bought a Cameleon for DD1 which is still being used for DD2) for something that I was going to use for a few months. The Out and About was about £350 iirc.

proceeding · 18/03/2015 14:38

Oh, the reason I didn't like the Phil and Ted's was that I wasn't keen on the "baby in the boot" idea and also found them very heavy to push - much heavier than the 360.

WindYourBobbinUp · 18/03/2015 18:21

Thank you, I like the look of the out and about. I do like a light buggy

The new uppababy vista is the answer. The 2015 version has had an overhaul and now operates as a single and fully functioning double.
Although it's not cheap it has good resale value

Ihateparties · 21/03/2015 14:49

The 15 vista is 67.5cm wide, that would pose a problem on some buses. The oyster max and peach are 59/60, I think the dot is the same. The vista looks great and I really like that to make it a double you only need the adaptor and can use the carrycot and seat that are included together but compact it isn't.
