We're expecting dc 1 in the summer and have narrowed our choices down to these two so far.

We live in a small rural town. We have two beaches in walking distance and a dog, so something more off road is necessary. We would like a carry cot so that we can use it instead of a Moses basket down stairs. Parent facing option beyond carrycot stage is non negotiable. We don't really use public transport and have a massive boot, so size and fold isn't too much of a problem.

The plan is to go and have a look at both before making a final decision. I'd love to hear your experiences of either system or suggestions for anything else that might fit the bill. TIA.

I have the trider and love it, really love it! It's great off road, only tried over field etc not beach yet. Was lovely in the bit of snow we had and it is so manouverable around shops, restaurants etc! Only been using it 2 months as we adopted a 6 month old. He's a very chunky monkey and very heavy but I can literally steer this around the shops with 1 finger!
Unfortunately he was too big for the carrycot that came with it so didn't get a chance to use that but love the fact can be used in the car as well. We have family 5 hours away so would have been brilliant to have used it for that sort of journey and have a carrycot for sleeping at the other end! He's still in the strata car seat that came with it despite being very tall.
The one thing I would say is the basket is pathetic! Doesn't really bother me as have change bag on the handlebar and can fit a few bits of shopping under and DH carries the rest ??!
I am very impressed by the quality of it and can't believe its not more popular or well known. I bought the nylon and pvc raincover for it as it fits the seat unit perfectly when parent facing unlike some of the others.
Because it is so easy to flip forward facing I have used it a couple of times as a highchair when there hasn't been a suitable highchair where we are (little man slips through the stupid wooden restaurant ones despite being the size of a 1 year old!).
Even my mum knows how to collapse it and erect it because it is so easy and she is a total technophobe! The wheels come off in a split second (very handy for muddy wheels as just dump them in a carrier bag!)

Thanks velvet! That all sounds very positive. I think I'm leaning towards the trider. Mainly because of the lie flat car seat / carry cot. It's great to know that there are lots of other good features and that the fold is easy.

Congratulations on your new arrival Flowers

Thank you. We bought from preciouslittleone online and it was a lot cheaper because it was last years colour. We went for the transporter set as it was only about £50 more for the buggy, carrycot and strata car seat than just the buggy on its own.

Southpaws · 28/02/2015 19:27

Have you looked at the bugaboo buffalo? We love ours, and it's a fantastic off roader. We had a Jane for dd1 and haaaated it. It was a pro slalom, but if the trider is similar I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I say this as someone who has had to fork out for a new buggy because using the Jane for dc2 wasn't an option as I hated it so much!

martymcfry · 28/02/2015 19:28

Uppababy Vista fits the bill. It's brilliant round town, off road etc. huge shopping basket, and baby at table height for when a little older

It's Which best buy, right at the top of the chart on.86%. The only one higher rated by which is the uppababy cruz But not so good for off road

Frolicacid · 28/02/2015 20:41

That's interesting south. My friend has a slalom and loves it. Her 2nd dc is as few month old and she highly recommends it.
I haven't looked properly at the buffalo. I thought it would be too wide (narrow hallway), but I've just checked and it's no wider than the others. Will look into it a bit further. Thank you.

I'm not sure if the vista is off road enough for us iykwim marty. Have you used yours on the beach, Forrest paths etc? I'd be interested to know how it handles. Thank you as well.

Yes I have a dog so many many walks on rough terrain. Perfect on sand. It has large wheels and is a dream to steer. I haver used you other two short listed so really not sure how they compare though

AprilShowers15 · 28/02/2015 23:02

I haven't used my buffalo yet but I know people that love theres!! One friend has just taken hers on a skiing holiday and has said she couldnt recommend it more, especially in two wheel mode

Becky2208 · 01/03/2015 10:51

We have a buffalo and I love it - it goes over everything and never feels like it's going to tip, and we've taken it over very rough and uneven ground. We looked at the peach jogger, which was our other favourite, but the carrycot seemed small and I was a bit worried that a 3 wheeler might tip over. It does look nice, but DH preferred the look of the buffalo, so that's what we went for.

Frolicacid · 01/03/2015 18:56

Thank you for all your replies! Lots to think about. I think I'm going to have to go and have a look at all the different models in a shop and have a play.
That will be easier said than done as we live in the out in the sticks! Hopefully I can persuade DH that we need a city break Smile

I have the trider and love it. The puncture proof wheels are great, I've had a nail in one and it didnt even need a repair. A friend of mine got stranded after getting a flat tyre 'off roading'.

I've used it on sand and most other terrains and it's great, really easy to steer and feels light even though it isn't! I didn't realise how easy it is to push until we borrowed a buggy a while back which was much lighter but horrible to push.

The strata car seat did really well in the eu trials, has support to help pulmonary development and doesn't need converters to fit on the pram. The lying down car seat is one of about 2 that which consider safe. This was really important for me as we do long journeys and I've read a lot about the dangers of newborns being in upright car seats.

I promise I don't work for Jane, i just love it!

MrsGSR · 01/03/2015 19:54

Sorry, should have qualified my friend had a different pram, can't remember which but not one you've mentioned.

Ihateparties · 01/03/2015 20:14

Absolutely definitely go and have a good play with all the ones you are interested in, it's a pain but definitely worth it in the long run. I don't think you can go wrong with the buffalo or the trider (I'm seeing more and more of them around where I live) I'm less sure on the PJ as a genuine outdoor lifestyle type pushchair but I can't really quantify why.

trilbydoll · 01/03/2015 21:03

We have the Rider which is the 4 wheel version of the Trider. I love it as a pram/pushchair, we've had no problems with it. I think it is worth noting of all my baby friends, only those with Jane travel systems haven't switched to a stroller.

The infant car seat is a pain in the arse. You can't adjust the straps when the car seat is in the isofix base, and once they get to 7/8mo they are heavy to be lifting in and out the whole time! It is however v good for safety which is the main thing.

Frolicacid · 01/03/2015 22:10

Loads more food for thought. Thank you for taking time to answer.

It's the lay flat car seat that really appeals to me about the trider. For the safety aspect, obviously, but also because I doubt I'll use the car that much day to day so it's good that it multi tasks as a carrycot as well.
I've had a good look at the bugaboo online today. I think it would need to do something pretty special to justify the price difference.

A trip to the shops os definitely in order. We will probably do that, decide which one we want then look for the best price online. Does any one know how long these things take to order? I'm assuming waiting until I'm 20 weeks will leave plenty of time?

I looked at the jogger as I wanted something that was durable but in the end I went for the normal Peach with the 4 wheels which I think is better because you can make it a double.

Frolicacid · 04/03/2015 19:20

Thanks nishy. I haven't even thought about the double factor - hyperemeses is making me feel like this one will be an only child at the moment!

I've managed to persuade DH that we need to go to a big city and have a look at all the different prams.
