Advice on oyster max with a newborn

Hi Ladies,

This is my first post so a big hello :)

I have just ordered the oyster max tandem for my son who is 19 months and my new little one who is due next month. I have only ordered the main and tandem seat and am torn as to whether I will need the carry cot. Does anybody have any experience of using the main seat in full recline for a newborn? I don't like the idea of the carrycot being at the bottom facing the other way and am also living in London with a fairly small car so space is minimal, so hoping I can avoid investing in the carrycot.

Any experience and advice would be much appreciated :)

Watching as I have done the same! I have 20 month dd and am due April. I have the old oyster carrycot that does fit as does our britax car seat so hoping to manage.....new carrycot is a big expense and the baby won't be in it for long

The top seat does go flat, but it would be in your older child's face if front facing. If the top seat is parent facing then the space between the bottom of the top seat and the child in the lower seat is very close, I would say uncomfortably so.

I used the carrycot on the lower position until my baby was 4.5 months and then put her in the lower seat unit with a head support as she grew out of the carrycot (tall baby!).

If you have a compatible car seat I think you can use that on the top position and that would give you more space for the older child in the lower seat.

In my experience, a carrycot or compatible car seat would be needed. It is a great double for us, fits on buses and easy to get round shops etc.

Ok so carry cot it is, we do have a maxi cosi pearl, but little one can't stay in that for extended trips out. Thanks for the info genome :) Bigbadgeorge good luck with your new little one, how are you feeling about the impending chaos of a newborn and young toddler? I'm starting to feel a bit anxious Confused

Ps, watch out for adapters with the oyster max, we had to buy ones that raise the level of the car seat and the carry cot up so they can go on the top level of the pram if you want to do this sometimes. Mothercare did not know this but john Lewis did and sent them out within 24 hrs on a Sunday!
