Carrycot or cocoon for newborn?

I have a battered old M and P Sola from my DC1 (now 3) which I assumed I'd use this time too - but it's not all fresh and shiny and neeeew Wink it has a carrycot which is fine as only used for a few months, but to buy a new Sola for it would be £400 which seems a bit enormous.

So looks like I either just use the battered old Sola or find a cheaper option.

I had a look in M and P today and they showed me the Armadillo and Urbo ones too - they say they are 'lie flat' but they're like the Sola - not really flat, they have bumps and bends. Are there any reasonably priced buggies that can face both ways that are genuinely flat? Does a cocoon thing make it more properly flat? I haven't used a cocoon before.

With my first, I spent hours walking around getting him to sleep in the buggy so I am prepared to do the same again!

If they are suitable from birth, then they do not need to be completely lie flat, if that make sense. It will do your baby no harm. The only pushchairs I think that are genuinely lie flat will be one with a hammock style seat which will mould more to your child - eg a Baby Jogger City Mini. I think you will always find a bump where a 'framed' lie flat seat joins in the middle as you describe. I would have said the Armadillo Flip for example was pretty flat as far as pushchairs go. The Easywalker Mosey / New Mini stroller may have a flatter seat for you? There should be some in M&P soon if you want a look.

The Bugaboo Cocoon has a wedge at the bottom to try to fill out this ledge which the Bee has, and if you really want your baby laid flat, then this may be an option. I used mine in several pushchairs.

Thank you Tiggy! Thanks

I think I have decided I want a carrycot. My first baby was a very discontented little wriggler and I feel more confident with the freedom and space of a carrycot I think. Although of course my next baby will be the most chilled out one ever Smile Hmm

I am about to post on the Giggle 2 thread as I am now considering splurging on the Pixel one, a great price and includes carrycot.

I use a new born pod for my ICandy raspberry which is the alternative to a FM, I like it as I can strap DD in at all times rather than have her loose in the CC, always worry she'll be rolling around in there!
