Bugaboo buffalo or silver cross pioneer

Just been recommended either of these by the lady at mothercare for our first baby.

We are looking for something which combines urban walking with that of one that we can use when we take the dogs over the field on dog walks.

Which would you recommend?

Mamas and papas told me I would need the bugaboo chameleon and that silver cross were poor quality but I assume that's because they don't sell the silver cross... As there is £200 difference between the two I would welcome your reviews!

We have the buffalo and I love it. It's great for walks and will go over any terrain, the seat is large and DS seems really comfy in it, the hood is amazing, and it's great to steer. However, it's very heavy to lift in and out of the car, the fold is big, and I don't think it would be great for public transport as it is quite big in general, so I suppose it depends what you want it for. We also have a smaller pushchair that stays in the car for trips to the shops etc, and for DM to use when she looks after DS as the buffalo won't fit in her car.

The size does concern me about the buffalo, it looks a beast and I'm not sure it would fit in my car boot. The pioneer looked a little more compact

What car do you have - we had a clio and it would fit, but it was very tight, we now have a megane, and it fits with room to spare.

Have you looked at the babyjogger versa gt? I think the fold is smaller (and easier) than the buffalo, and it's supposed to be good off road. This was our other choice, but DH preferred the buffalo for how solid it is, as we do a lot of off road walking.

I'm not familiar with either of these pushchairs, but in my 7 yrs on here I've only ever seen praise or Bugaboo and criticism and problems with Silver Cross.

Chocolatecakefan · 02/02/2015 21:34

What are the problems with silver cross?

I have a corsa

I think the buffalo would be a tight fit in a corsa. May be worth going to mothercare and seeing if you can try a few different prams in your boot.

I don't know if there is a particular problem with the SC model you are looking at. I just seems that SC is only ever mentioned on here in terms of poor quality.

M&P have got a cheek dissing SC though! M&P have perfected the art of style over substance, and paired it with appaling customer service.

Quality and build-wise, I'd be inclined to lean towards the Bugaboo (from what I've read on here) but if it doesn't fit in your boot that puts paid to that!

We have the Versa GT and love it - it's brilliant on bumpy terrain - but theres no denying it's fairly big when folded )although to be fair this is mainly down to the wheels, which can be easily removed. It's heavy too, but I wouldn't let this put you off it if you need the all-terrain capability as it's a very sturdy, well-built and surprisingly nippy buggy.

A friend of mine asked my advice on buggys recently and I suggested she look at the City Mini GT - might that suit you?

I also have a Corsa, after much umming and ahhhing went with ICandy Peach and I'm so glad I did, it folds really small and fits really comfortably in the boot, all I do is take the seat off and lie if on top of the folded pram.

I only pushed my peach across a field once, that was enough never to try it ever again! The peach jogger is probably okay although it doesn't often get mentioned, not sure why. If you're off road regularly of the two the buffalo no question (the pioneer isn't a proper off roader imo, nothing wrong with it but it isn't). The versa gt is getting good reviews upthread here, the jane trider is normally mentioned too. Plus there's also the easywalker mini, mosey and new mini.

Fwiw if I was me I would be measuring the width of the car boot and finding something that fits with the wheels on. Taking them off is an unecessary faff.

For actual off pavement things like mountain buggy and nipper - big air wheels, robust suspension, simple frames without lots of points of movement, forward facing fixed seats - are generally easier to use in those contexts.

I have had to return my pioneer after 8 weeks use and have had an icandy , twice because zip kept breaking on carrycot where you attach foot muff and lastly because the back wheel has started making an horrific noise .. Loved the pioneer as a pram but one to many "little " faults for the cost Hmm
