Best buggy with a buggy board? Toddler and newborn...

Hi all,

Expecting DC2 in the summer and DC1 will be nearly 3. I think I need a buggy with a buggy board - but also a buggy that DC1 can use when DC2 is in a sling if needed. Needs to be comfy enough for a small baby, light enough to push with toddler on the buggy board (I'm quite petite and a weakling!!) and to put in the car when needed. It will mostly be used for short trips into/around town.

Considering a Baby Jogger City Mini (thinking DC2 can go in it from birth without a carrycot? - DC1 will be at nursery 2/3 days a week so I will be on my own with baby to transport about). Should also be OK with a buggy board and DC1 could go in it without having to swap anything around (carrycots etc). However - it looks a bit flimsy / uncomfy for a small baby.

We have a bugaboo chameleon at the moment but its a 2nd hand 1st generation so getting quite rickety now so want to replace! Would consider a newer one (might be a bit heavy though?) or a uppababy vista.

Any other ideas please?
Thanks

Hello,

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing prams and pushchairs. Here's our round up of pushchair reviews for the best prams on the market right now.

Hope that helps! Flowers

Not a city mini with a board. Really not a good combination. The gt is okay but it's back heavy so feels a bit tippy.

The oyster/oyster2 is great with a board. All the bugaboos are imo but the bee is the most practical as it has the lie flat seat. I'm guessing an easywalker mosey or mini would also be good.

Bugaboo bee. You really want baby to parent face when using a buggy board, otherwise when you lay baby down their head is in the way where toddler stands. If that makes sense

So I would say no to baby jogger as they are very long when baby reclined and so nowhere for toddler to stand. With something like bugaboo bee head safely away, and toddler can stand in front of handle

Bellejessleo · 11/01/2015 21:34

ihateparties is the city mini no good with a board? I was planning on using this combo as I already have the carrycot that fits on from when I had the double city mini but never used a board with that one.
I loved the city mini, even the double was a dream to push and fold. And the hood is fantastic for the summer as it covers them so well.
I was thinking it was a good option due to being able to use as a travel system with car seat attachments, and a cosy pram with carrycot. Plus it's a lightweight pushchair that'll last them all through toddler years.

peppapigonaloop · 11/01/2015 21:35

I have a bugaboo and use the kid-sit board with it, it is great and a really good seat for the toddler. Is a little harder to steer though so you might struggle if you are very petite but worth a look!

Ihateparties · 11/01/2015 21:38

They're a nightmare to push if you have the buggyboard child outside the handlebar. Nightmare. You might be okay in the carrycot stage assuming you strip the fabrics off, I'm assuming in that set up the buggyboard child would fit inside the handlebar.

Whatever you use the child really needs to be inside the handle for it to work for more than an infrequent 10 minute journey type useage. Don't get me wrong it's a great pushchair, just not with a board.

I have a Vista and will be using it with buggy board and extra seat this summer (20 month age gap coming up). To be honest, it's a wonderful pram, but it's heavy. Not so much to push, but it's heavy to lift. I'm not sure if that's enough to cross it off your list. I'm nearly 6 foot and strong so am not too concerned, but with your self description I thought I'd offer my thoughts.

I hate to say that as I love it so much!

Bellejessleo · 11/01/2015 21:46

Ah I get it, thank you. I've never used a buggy board before, was hoping dd who will be 3.2 years by then will mostly walk and just hop on if she gets tired. By the time the babys out the carrycot she'll hopefully be walking all the time. Can you take the seat unit off the city mini to attach the carrycot do you know? Sorry to hijack your thread lovelyweather!

Ihateparties · 11/01/2015 22:23

Yeah you can take it off, it's poppered to the frame. You just need to unfasten one side of the fold strap, unthread it from the seat fabric and reattach that so you can still fold the frame.

I'm using a lascal buggy board with a bugaboo chameleon and it's quite ok. DD1 is not a good walker despite being nearly 4. So I push a lot.

TwoLittleTerrors · 12/01/2015 08:23

And I think you need a heavy buggy with a buggy board. If DD1 jumps enthusiastically even cameleon wobbles! I would imagine a light buggy would topple tbh.

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 12/01/2015 12:58

Thank you all! I think I might stick with the bugaboo at first and try to find a cheap 2nd hand buggy board - if that doesn't work out I will find another option - I think I will rely on sling for a few months anyway (hopefully skip using the carrycot as I didn't like it last time for DC1). (booo....I wanted an excuse for a new buggy!) I might look at BJCM/GT when baby is a bit bigger and toddler is more inclined to walk (so wouldn't need the board as much). Will also have a play with the new models in John Lewis when I get a chance!
Thanks for clarifying about the BGCM/buggy board combo - I did think that would be a good solution so glad to hear now that its not really practical!

Maybe take a look at the armadillo flip. It folds in half like the baby joggers, yet can parent face so buggy board should work well

Ihateparties · 12/01/2015 13:11

I agree, if the armadillo flip is sturdy enough (I have only fiddled with it in the shop and it seems it) then it would probably work great with a board.

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 12/01/2015 17:51

Thanks, hadn't heard of that one but will check it out
