Would it be silly to buy a new pushchair for a three year old?

I currently own a BJ City Mini GT and a Maclaren Triumph for travel etc...

I'm thinking of selling my BJ and keeping the Triumph but also buying the new Maclaren Mark II because it looks pretty amazing. Or, I could simply sell my BJ and keep using my Triumph until she stops using a pushchair altogether; which will probably be soon considering her age. We don't use the BJ anymore really but still use the Triumph for long walks and park trips.

I think what I really need is confirmation that it would be silly to buy a new pushchair at this point even though I REALLY, REALLY want to Grin

I'm going to miss the pushchair years Blush

Its hard to let go isnt it? I still have my pushchair in the cupboard unde the stairs and ds is 5! He hasnt been in it in about 2 years but i just cant let go. It will eventually go in the roofspace. It only recently graduated from the boot of the car Blush

Do you need pushchairaholics anonymous? I think buying a new pushchair when you have a perfectly good one for a 3 year old is a bit silly they hopefully won't need one or want to be in one much longer. I don't use mine anymore haven't since DS was about 2 and a half but I still have it accessible for emergencies (when I'm running late)

Cupoftchaiagain · 23/10/2014 17:02

Yes. Sorry... From one pushchair addict to another.

I was never a pushchair addict, but even I missed having one when DS4 finally grew out of needing one.
You could move sideways straight to a Zimmer frame Grin or join us on the recent shopping trolley thread

Cupoftchaiagain · 23/10/2014 17:09

Perhaps u need a (nother) sling instead?

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 23/10/2014 17:30

Yes it would be silly. Unless you have another child or are pregnant Wink

Tiggywunkle · 23/10/2014 18:37

Probably mad...yes! But more mad to want a MKII, than to want a last fling with a final new pushchair.
I have a Maclaren MKII - as yet unused - but I totally don't get it. Yes its lightweight, but there's nothing too it, - it is a tiny frame with a bit of mesh seat on....but the price tag is extortionate for what you get! (I only bought one in a sale to see what the fuss was about). If you can tell me what the attraction is, then I might appreciate it a bit more and want to use it!!

Cupoftchaiagain · 23/10/2014 19:18

But tiggywunkle it is so light! We have 1970s maclaren weighing 3kg and it is so great to have something u can hang off your arm (y'know, like an umbrella). And the mk2 has that plus hood and basket. I am in love. But yes, to hell with that cost for anything that doesn't come with seats for me and an engine

Dia I used to have a Bee+ and my heart actually sank a little a lot when I sold it two years back, if I had the space I would probably keep them all.

Fifi I may very well need pushchairaholics! I'm reading this back and think I've gone a little mad Blush

Cup, thank you for your bluntness, it was the slap I needed.

Pacific I already own a shopping trolley, I'm an old lady inside really. I secretly think they are one of the best inventions of all time. Maybe I should start collecting those instead of pushchairs! I think you've solved my problem Shock

Mother don't tempt me. I'm embarrassed to say that that thought has already crossed my mind.

Tiggy as Cup said it is the luxury of the light weight with the added features. I live in London without a car so to me the MarkII is like a luxury stroller. But I do agree about the price, hence my needing a reality check.

You're welcome!

You can invest surprising amounts of money on shopping trolleys btw….

Enjoy!!

Ive only had the one. It was £49.99 from baby world when i was pregnant with first baby (10 years ago! Shock) It was the first baby thing i bought and i was so chuffed with it and it has survived two babies through to preschool. It would do another as well Grin

Backto505 · 23/10/2014 19:57

I bought a mk ii for dd who was 2 and a bit on a day out when we'd not bought out usual one which proved to be a mistake

It's awesome. Wish I'd had it earlier. It's just so easy, takes up no room at all. Is a lovely smooth ride. I can't fault it

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 23/10/2014 19:58

My DC are at secondary school and I still have my McLaren Volo hanging around - I use it to take the cats to the vet nowadays, but I used it to do the school run with poorly siblings up until they were about 7.

However, it would be the act of a madwoman to go out and spend 145 quid on a brand new buggy at this stage if you've got a perfectly good Triumph. Plenty of time to go buggy shopping when and if you do succumb to a late broody spell.

Squtternutbaush · 23/10/2014 20:06

I bought a bjcm when my eldest was 3, granted it was back when Argos sold them off for £65 before they were popular but it was one of my best buys!

DS was a lazy sod though and we did have a 4 mile round trip to nursery everyday so it got used... And infact I sold it to a friend for £45 when we had about 6 months use and she gave it back to me when I fell pregnant with DD 4 years later so it only really cost me £20 :o

ShelaghTurner · 23/10/2014 20:08

I'm a slowly recovering pushchairholic with a 2.8 year old. I've had the lot and am left with a BJCM4 and a BJCMGT. I should get rid of the GT as it's so big and hardly used now but I can't bear the thought. DD2 hasn't been in a pushchair for about 3 months but the thought of selling makes me shudder.

However, I've just watched a video of the MkII as I hadn't heard of it and it looks rubbish. That certainly wouldn't tempt me back in.

MisForMumNotMaid · 23/10/2014 20:10

I'm down to just three pushchairs now for DD 3yrs 10 months. I did get down to two but the third was a bargain two weeks ago.

I've promised DH i'll get one of them on Ebay soon.

What I really need is a shopping trolley/ buggy board hybrid.

DD has had slightly delayed mobility and various sensory issues that mean she's better off in a buggy if we try to go anywhere. If I try to go without I end up carrying her so couldn't manage bags too but if I go with buggy she point blank wont walk.

Squtternutbaush · 23/10/2014 20:27

I must say I had far too many prams DS (8 I think) but am happy with the 2 I have for DD (bjcm is our small one) but i have been eyeing up the GT.

Back in the old days we had a whole thread on here to gossip about our obsession, it was called "the pushchair shed" 08/09 ish and there were ladies on there who'd had 20+.

Tiggywunkle · 23/10/2014 21:29

Ahhhh but I have a Babyzen YoYo and not much beats that for lightweight strollers!

I'll dig it out one day and give it a push....and then sell it straight on.

Shopping trollies....hmm....I agree with Misformum that a shopping trolley with a board would be useful....

Cupoftchaiagain · 23/10/2014 21:42

Misformum u need a good carrier! U can hide it in your bag until u know dd is tired, then use it to carry her leaving at least arms free for bags

Cupoftchaiagain · 23/10/2014 21:43

I need a place to buggy geek in and share my thoughts with the only people who can understand. Let's revive the shed!

Squtternutbaush · 23/10/2014 21:58

Cup Noooo!!!! That bloody shed cost me a fortune :o

ShelaghTurner · 23/10/2014 22:01

I had a yoyo but sold it because I didn't like the upright position of the handle. Wish I hadn't now. It's just what I need.

Chocoholicforever · 23/10/2014 23:20

I bought the BJCMGT when my DS turned 3! Did sell the others though,.. Tell me, does this new Maclaren cater for heavy children?! Could be tempted to get one that takes less space.....
