Second hand Bugaboo Cameleon 2 special edition or brand new M&P Sola 2 MTX?

Help! I have an opportunity to purchase a second hand pristine bugaboo cameleon 2 special edition for £600 inc carrycot but fell in love with the sola MTX from mamas and papas... I hear so much about bugaboo but is it really worth all the hype? The MTX has great reviews about ease of use, steering, folding etc, easy access to the basket, easy to recline baby and from birth etc and although the bugaboo gets great reviews too there are some things that just sound niggly! Any thoughts/advice??

I'd get the bugaboo but try and haggle on price!!!

Mamas & Papas customer service and aftersales care and spares are AWFUL!!!

Bugaboo retain their value, M&P don't... there is a reason for that.

Would agree with previous poster. I have never understood the hype around m&p, on my opinion they are a bit flimsy and plasticky. Also bugaboo takes maxi cosi infant car seat which consistently gets best marks in independant safety tests while m&p car seats are not that consistently high rated in crash tests.
Also bugaboo resale value os good. Had a second hand one on dc 5 and sold it for what I bought if for. It was very well engineered and I would certainly have considers one again, my only criticism was that the seat unit could have been bigger.
However £600 is massively overpriced in my opinion.
Would also recommend to consider teutonia.

What you need to try out is pushing them with a heavy toddler in - that is when you can tell the difference. Honestly the Cam you can push one fingered it is so light still.

If you look at local ebay pushchair prices drop massively before Christmas - worth looking out for a bargain on there. The carrycot and seat fabrics can all be machine washed at 30 degrees.

Thanks everyone :-) I think I'd really like to buy new as its my first so just need to convince DH! How about the icandy peach 3 - what are your thoughts on that range?

Was thinking icandy as we may have a second baby relatively soon after (if we cope! Ha!) and can then consider the blossom double buggy ...?

Had an older model icandy pram with double seat option years ago (which I then sold for a cam) was not bad but hated the folding mechanism and seat was too small for a toddler. So would have been great for twins but not siblings. Have you looked at the uppababy vista? It looks good, has organic fabric in the carry it, seems to have a decent sized seat, nice and reasonably high so baby is not too exposed to exhaust fumes and has the option of an add on seat. Also oyster has the option of a add on seat.

Honestly I'd buy a 2nd hand "pram" and the save your money to buy a new "buggy" like a maclaren techno or quest when the baby is older.

I didn't like the icandy apple that I had for a while.

What will your lifestyle be? I personally think a brand new expensive pram is a waste of money, you realistically may only use it for 9 months before resorting to a buggy stroller for everyday use especially if you end up using the car everyday.

BikeRunSki · 16/10/2014 20:10

Don't buy anything ftom M&P. Ever. It'll fall apart and they wom't care.

£600 is massively overpriced for a second hand Cam though.

douchbag · 16/10/2014 20:14

You could get a cam3 or buffalo for that price

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 16/10/2014 20:17

I am the only person who will say m&p! But that's because I LOVE my urbo and have had fab customer service from them including replacing the chassis. Have used it for dd1 and now using it for dd2 and it's going strong still. Steers well, sturdy and love the look.

ilovehotsauce · 16/10/2014 20:19

Reviews aside mamas and papas customers service is shocking!

RandomMess · 16/10/2014 20:19

You are the only person I've ever heard of who's had good customer service, seriously!!!

JenSmith1508 · 16/10/2014 20:57

Definitely the icandy, you can get a brand new peach3 for £670. It takes a maxi-cosi (we've got the pebble), it folds really small and we've never had any issues with aftersales.

Futter · 16/10/2014 21:17

Lifestyle wise I live in the suburbs so will be going on lots of long walks in woods etc so need something quite sturdy that's good on rough grounds but also light enough for me to cope on my own and is suitable for a short person (I'm 5'2"). We are going to be buying a new car so can buy something suitable to store whatever size really but I'll def be out and about in the car a lot so need something easy to fold and put back together again. I'll be using the "click on" car seat option for short visits or the pram cot for longer visits/outings. Also need a good shopping basket that's easy to get in and out of for lots of shopping trips :-) I think that's it?!

As a previous poster suggested, try to "borrow" a toddler and try prams with a toddler in it. I once went pram buying with a friend and we had my then near three year old with us who was very articulate and was able to tell us what was comfy from her perspective and what was not. Also take into account that a two or three year old in winter clothes is very sturdy but may still fall asleep during long walks. Some people f continental prams like teutonia or emmaljunga have especially large seats.

RandomMess · 16/10/2014 21:49

I'm short and I think I struggled with lots of heavier to manoevre pushchairs because of it Confused

Futter · 16/10/2014 21:50

I have 2 and a half year old nephew I can kidnap ;-) great idea!

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 16/10/2014 22:45

I know! Everything I read says stay away!!! But I've had nothing but good service and they couldn't have been more helpful when I had a problem.

Ihateparties · 16/10/2014 22:52

If a close age gap is on the cards and you have a little time then have a look at the new vista, that will be a proper double instead of the half arsed affair it currently is. Also to echo others yes, £600 for a Cam2 is ridiculous.

Plus a little vote for the awesome and reasonably priced easywalker mosey.

Futter · 16/10/2014 23:02

Thanks everyone :-) yes we have some time to make a decision so I think a trip to john lewis to test the icandy, bugaboo, vista and oyster ranges will be next stop! When is the new vista out?

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 16/10/2014 23:09

I don't think there's a release date for the new vista yet but it can't be far off, as in the next few months as oppose to next year. If you have a good independent shop nearby try to have a look there too, you might see a different range of brands, JL have good solid products but not the most diverse selection.

3boys3dogshelp · 16/10/2014 23:19

Bugaboo! I gave in to the hype on dc3 and got a cam2 and I love it. Sooo much better than anything else I have used (lots!) I paid £200 for mine on gumtree in immaculate condition and including most accessories although not a special edition colour. £600 is crazy.
