Bugaboo bee or cameleon and a maclaren?

My son is 2.5 and I'm due a baby in March. I plan on not using a double as hoping ds will be okay to walk and use a buggy board.
I sold off our pushchair yesterday and was planning on getting a maclaren quest for my son, and when baby comes I can sling the baby if ds needs to use pushchair (he definitely still needs pushchair at present)

I was going to get a bugaboo cam for new baby and a buggy board for when we use that

But now I am thinking instead of both a maclaren and cameleon would I be better off with just a bee??

What do you ladies think? :) thanks!

We have a cameleon and a McLaren. I hate the Maclaran and never use it (we bought it for a holiday).

An idea for the cameleon (we have a second baby soon) is a spare frame. You get carrycot fabric and pushchair seat fabric and Velcro on whichever you need, but it is a bit of a faff to change them over. We plan to buy a spare frame so that we can have both set up. So we can easily switch between carrycot + toddler walking and pushchair + baby sling.

You could get a Maclaren XLR - lie flat unbrella fold with a carrycot so useable forboth a toddler and a newborn (separately of course!) I have one and love it

We did the spare frame thing for ds and dd1 using a gecko, it's pretty useful. Ultimately a lie flat seat may be more practical in this situation as it allows you to switch mid outing, which the spare frame doesn't. Plus if your ds is 2.5 now he's going to be 3 by the time the baby arrives and will probably cope fine with the board.

Thanks for your suggestions! I don't think I would need a second frame as I use my car quite a bit. I will be doing a bit of travelling a lone with ds during this pregnancy so thought a stroller would be a handy addition rather than a two part fold at check in gates or even hoping out of the car when I'm the size of a house... But maybe I could get past these inconveniences and just stick to the bugaboo hmm

I have a Bee, and I love it. It's my 5th buggy. Had McLaren, Quinny, Phil and Teds, hated them all, so heavy and McLaren wasn't comfortable plus didn't lie flat. Really recommend it, the Bee.

I love my bee, bought it when my first was 1yr old. Wish I'd never bothered with a big pram at all and will use it from birth this time

I would get a bee. If you use car a lot then cameleon will be a pain anyway as folds in two parts.

Use money saved to buy eldest a micro scooter or running bike

We've got the cameleon/ maclaren combo. I hate the maclaren. I'd get a cameleon/ bee3 combo if I were you Wink

I've never had a Bee [DH refused point blank as he is v tall and fell in love with a Stokke]. I have travelled with friends who have used one and it folds down flat, and seems to travel, really really well.
The buggy board with it seems to work v well too as the child stands inside the handles iykwim.

Since you will use a car a lot, and have to get two children into car seats [in the rain], I would think that a pram that simply collapses rather than needs taking apart is the obvious solution. Smile

Only one other suggestion - some friends recently bought a Jane pram. No idea if it would meet your needs as they moved overseas before I saw the rest of the pram in action, but the carrycot for a newborn can be used as a lie flat car seat. It's fantastic! Wish I'd had one like it when DD was born.

Get a Bee. I use ours with the buggyboard, DS is 2 and my newborn goes in the pram. It's a great pushchair for a toddler too.

Dontlaugh · 19/09/2014 22:19

Just to say I also had a Jane, (buggy queen me Blush) and the lie flat part is no longer recommended as a car seat. Think it was Which? But could also have been Jane themselves. We bought that one in 2006 and I will say I thought to myself there was something not right about a car seat sitting horizontal in back seat. I really noticed the difference when I subsequently bought a maxi cosi with cabrio fix base, the stability was amazing. Worth mentioning.

Get a Bee, best £500 I ever spent. Plus the new one looks even better, love the softer seat. My DS is 7 months old and all my friends with similar ages are reading their much larger prams in for the maclaren style and I don't need to bother. Plan to use till he does need a pram anymore and store for any future children. I got mine after spending a month watching how easy other who had them got them on and off the bus.

another bee owner here. Bought it 09 for my ds and never used anything else for him or dd. Great for the city. V comfortable for the baby :). Am sure the new version is even better than mine. Why would want the faff of 2 buggies? Buy the bee!
