Can someone talk me through the different Phil and Teds?

Sooo DD will be 2 yrs 5 months when DC2 is due. She's not a great walker and is a bolter so think I need a double. Suspect a Phil and Teds is likely to suit me best (and there are lots available second hand near me which is handy) but there are so many models I am lost.

Can anyone explain the differences? And help me work out which is best for me?

My wish list:

  • I'm small and feel dwarfed by large prams. Also go on buses, negotiate lots of narrow doorways etc, so need something compact especially width wise.
  • Needs to be good with kerbs!
  • Good as a single as well as a double. So eg I'd like it to have a reasonably nice carrycot option, and a nice (ideally bucket) seat, when in single mode.
  • An adjustable handle would be a big plus as DH is a foot taller, but can live without. If a fixed handle, then not too high ideally.
  • DD is tallish with long legs (takes after DH!), so if she's to sit underneath then there needs to be decent space there. She also gets bored very easily... So ideally there would be the option to put her in the front seat and DC2 in the back (I am hoping DC2 is more laid back!)

I'm not bothered about how small it folds. Or about off road wheels. Not too bothered about basket size. Don't really care which way they face (though would be nice if carrycot was parent facing when in single mode).

If there are any other non P & T options I should look at then please say!

Thanks very much!

The only phil and teds that fits your bill really is the promenade. That's literally the only one with a bucket seat. The newer ones like the navigator and explorer will take a carrycot but not with the double seat on. The different models vary on tipping ease, I don't know which is better and worse but I'm sure someone will.

I would look at a jane twone, an Icandy peach and apple2pear, possibly an oyster max if the bucket seat thing isn't set in stone. A promenade too I guess although I don't know what they're like to handle and push.

The thing that concerns me for you is I'm quite a lot taller and I know my mum (who is 5'2") struggled more tipping some tandems than I did. The ones mentioned are pretty much the lightest ones really, they will not feel light compared to your bee though!

Thank you both!

Good to know long legged child not an issue.

parties I had a look at the icandy tandems in john lewis and they seemed HUGE to me compared with the phil and teds... Just can't get keen on something that feels tank like even if (and I know this is silly) it's actually easier to push... I like the look and idea of the oyster max but assumed it would feel huge like the icandys? Will check out jane twone...

If the others don't have a bucket seat what do they have? Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology... I really just mean "seat with sides" (as opposed to the clamshell Bee seat style). definitely not set in stone anyway. Also not bothered about being able to do carrycot+double seat - when i have to transport both toddler and newborn I'd use the fold out soft cocoon at the back (you know what I mean!) instead of carrycot.

I have a friend with an explorer so can see how that feels tipping it up kerbs... Is the Dot small then? that appeals but guess there must be compromises... And I'm also clueless re the verve/vibe.

I know everything will feel large and heavy compared with the Bee except the mountain buggy nano which I love but can't justify
