Double pushchair for a toddler and a newborn?

I'm getting ahead of myself as I am only 7+5 today but will need to start saving at some point.

DD will be 18 months old when this baby is born and we spend a lot of time out and about dog walking and dealing with my horse, so need something that can be, umm, a little bit abused.

We bought a Stokke for DD without too much thought other than we loved it in the shop (and still do) but ended up having to buy a ebay bargain Graco for dog walking - a mistake I'd rather not make again. Car is not the largest either (Skoda Octavia) and the dog is quite big (weimaraner) so size when folded needs to be a consideration too.

Moon on a stick, anyone?

I had a Phil and teds for my DC - was a little while ago now as they are 10 and 8 but I found it great. Still miss the "big red buggy" a bit Smile

I have bought a phil and teds for very big 14 month old and newborn. Haven't tried it yet Grin but it comes on high recommendation. Bought locally secondhand so saved me a fortune.

We have the same age gap as you, and have the oyster max.. Love it but dd isn't keen on the buggy, and prefers to walk or use her seat (the under side one) as a kind of buggy board and hold onto ds' seat?! Maybe wait until they have arrived and see what's happens? It's £500 we could have avoided spending and I'd have invested in a better sling..

I have 18 months between mine. We were given a Phil and Teds, which coped ok with all the situations you describe, although it was monstrously heavy to push with the newborn lying flat in the main seat and our toddler in the second seat on top. If we were buying one we were going to get the Out n About Nipper double. It's side by side but fits through most doorways. Feels v light to push and has big wheels. The seats aren't very big (I reckon my average sized toddler would find them a real squeeze at 2.2years), but they do lie more or less flat so it's good for newborns!

None of the doubles we looked at folded down particularly small unfortunately. We've not used our double all that long. Baby is 7.5 months now and 95% of the time we use our single buggy plus a Kid-Sit buggy board for DD (it's got a ride-on attachment she can sit on). We only crack out the double for the occasional day out, as DD still needs a sleep and obviously can't do that on a buggy board.

Hi there everyone,

'Scuse the intrusion but have noticed you guys really know your stuff when it comes to double buggies. We'd be ever so grateful if any of you had the time to hop over to our double buggy reviews section and add a review, to let more MNers know?

Congrats on your pregnancy CherryLips Flowers

Brilliant - thank you. Lots of our dog walks are hilly so as lightweight as possible would be preferred! We had the briefest of brief looks in Mothercare & M&P over the weekend but I then got superstitious about looking so early(!)

I will check out the double buggy section too ;)

I must recommend the icandy peach3, i've been an icandy fan for years because their strollers are so nice! My friend has an apple2pear for her farm and says it's really sturdy when walking through the mud, I think either could be good as they don't tend to brake (so i'm told)...
