I'm thinking of buying a 2nd hand iCandy (it's cheaper than a new stroller and I've always wanted one) but DS is 20 months. Currently he's not showing any signs of me being able to give up the buggy, even if we go to the corner shop, he wants to be carried back and will tantrum about it. I'm usually on my own with him plus shopping/hopping on and off buses etc so I figure for us it's probably at least another year away before he'll walk everywhere. I also don't have a car, we always use public transport.

But, what age do you think a child SHOULD give up the pushchair? am I soon to head into the disapproving looks? Should I even care?

When you and your child are ready to stop. When it is appropriate for your lifestyle.

DP uses our car during the week, so DS1 was 4. On the rare occasions I was taking a car somewhere, I wouldn't pack a pushchair, but when I needed to get somewhere quickly on foot I did use a pushchair. The only person who ever mentioned thinking DS was too old for it drives smaller distances than I used to walk.

DS2 is mainly out the pushchair at 3, we tend to move at DS1 speed, so it doesn't slow me down having another one walking.

If it wasn't for other people's judgy attitudes and the weight limits on buggies, there are days when I'd much rather stick a 3 and 6 yo in a huge double buggy, than deal with the endless negotiation required to walk places.
