Anyone used a phil and teds for a newborn?

Hello!

We have a 16mo DS and are expecting DC2 in 6weeks. We have a phil and teds dot (love it!) but I'm wondering about how comfy it will be for DC2 with just the main seat in lie flat? We have the doubles kit for DS to sit on top at the front.

I'm wondering whether I should do something to a Moses basket mattress to make it a bit more padded?

Also is there enough space to get baby in and out easily under the 2nd seat?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated Thanks

We bought a p&t cocoon for the newborn

HavannaSlife · 18/05/2014 17:46

Yes, it was easy enough to get the baby out through the back. We also bought a back flap, which is a piece of material that goes on the back when the main seat is flat as its quite open and its pretty windy around here

Please be careful when using the pram for shopping etc. don't put items in the hood of the pram.
Sorry to scare you but my cousins friend put some chicken breasts in the hood and on the walk home from the butchers they slipped down and suffocated her baby.
I'm really not trolling I just wanted to warn you when I saw your post about newborns as her baby was 3 months old.

Buy a cocoon - you can get one second-hand off eBay. They slide in and out, and you don't need to wake the baby when you take them to toddler group, for example, as you can just use it as a carrycot. Very handy.

MummySparkle · 18/05/2014 18:19

Does the cocoon work with the 2nd seat? Would DS have to be in the back seat with the cocoon on the top?

Can't say I'm likely to put stuff in the hood - I never have done so far. That's a terrible story. But I doubt I'd put raw meat above my baby either!

The cocoon is just a soft padded carrycot that fits on the lie-flat 'shelf' on the bottom, and the toddler seat goes on top.

HavannaSlife · 18/05/2014 18:24

Yes it works with toddler in front ill post a pic later

BikeRunSki · 18/05/2014 18:26

I used a cocoon on the main seat reclined flat, and toddler on doubles kit above (fits in holes where bumper bar usually goes).

LizzieMint · 18/05/2014 18:34

I had a p&t sport so I don't know how the fit differs but what I found was that when the main seat was laid flat, it was completely flat then you put the baby in and the head end sagged down so the baby was slightly inclined. I used a cot wedge pillow under the cocoon to raise the head end back to level. They may have sorted this out on later models though. Other than that, loved my p&t and am finally reluctantly selling it, it's not been used for about 2 years!

HavannaSlife · 18/05/2014 18:46

I didnt use the sport from newborn but I know the back support on the main seat has changed since then

HavannaSlife · 18/05/2014 18:48

I think, with the dot being smaller that it has his own cocoon, you can use sport ones on explorers, e3s etc so you woukd have to check.

The newer models are more sturdy when in newborn mode

TribbleWithoutATardis · 18/05/2014 19:27

I used mine with a newborn and it was brilliant, obviously there are comprises with every double but we loved it.

ipswichwitch · 18/05/2014 19:31

We have the navigator and it's been great. DS2 is now big enough to go in the double kit seat on the bottom and DS1 on top. It's so easy to adjust the main seat between the two boys too.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 18/05/2014 19:37

I had a p&t sport with the cocoon too, it was brilliant for newborn ds2. He could look up at me when awake as dd was on the front, ds1 would walk beside me and talk to them both.

The cocoon is also very snuggly and I discovered ds2 would usually go to sleep within minutes of being in the buggy. The combination of a slight sway when the back seat is fully reclined and the fleecy cocoon sent him straight off Smile

Pannier bags are great for carrying shopping in, that way you aren't tempted to put anything in the hood.

Good luck with your new baby!

Thank you everyone for your replies - sorry for not coming back to you sooner - it was 'one of those days' at work and I clean forgot that I'd even posted this!

A cocoon that sits inside the main seat would be perfect. It's basically a squishy Moses basket that sits in right? I shall have to investigate because the dot is smaller. On the p&t website they advertise a different carrycot, but I shall have a look around for a cocoon type thing definitely. I think the dot seat is the same width as previous models so it might fit in anyway.

Do the cocoons have a harness in them for baby, or is baby just loose?

Again, thanks ever so much everyone. We saw the pannier bags last time we were in kiddicare - they look fab too! I think they're next on the list to mention to any relatives that want to buy us something!

Yup.
When DS was born and dd was 2.4
I bought a Sport with cocoon and double kit
He lasted 10 weeks in the cocoon - it's great.
He's now 6 month and is cosy in the front while I have the 2nd seat on for dd or my shopping but she can walk most places now

HavannaSlife · 19/05/2014 23:04

I have hamster bags, same thing but not as expensive from amazon, no harness in the cocoon.

MummySparkle · 21/05/2014 18:44

I'm definitely getting a cocoon! I've been bidding on some in eBay, missed one because Little Man woke up 5mins before it ended and it went for about £10 including postage - gutted, it was nearly new too! Another one ending this evening. It shall be mine!

I'll look into the amazon hamster bags too. Thanks for all of your advice :)
