Can you buy a travel system for £100

OH thinks travel systems cost £100 like they did in 1995-2003ish Hmm i can find any for that price for 2nd hand or new apart from a hauck we like. he is now saying we should just carry the baby around with us Grin he has never held a chunky 6mo baby for more than a few minutes let alone all day walking around i don't see how this is possible. all the travel systems i have looked at are 200-350 for the full set which i think is a reasonable amount to pay for something used for 2yrs maybe more if we have a dc2 which we plan on. the only thing i have found that i like for £160 2nd hand is an old bugaboo gecko but i don't like how big the gap is between the cover and the hood on the carrycot Confused any idea's people

Try online4baby.com clearence section?

I think 200 - 350 is reasonable too, but you can get a bit cheaper. Maybe if you do find a cheap one look up some reviews first. Though I was able to find bad and good reviews for all the ones we looked at

Online4baby is my #1 choice as you can spend £500 and pay half and pay half later OH was on board with this then changed his mind Confused apparently the red kite zebu i want is too expensive as is the chicco next 2 me crib Hmm men really don't understand these things do they Grin

Try NCT nearly new sales / fb selling pages. DH is being daft thinking you can carry the baby around!

Argos have reductions on baby items atm and have both graco and joie travel systems at around £100. The joie brisk is on offer on the kiddicare website and if you then purchase the compatible infant carrier it is around £150. Having seen the brisk recently it seems brilliant value for money. eBay is also worth a look as it's possible to get a great deal on local pickup only items.

Do NCT do prams though ? there is still tons of time to bring him round to the idea of a £300 pram lol or i can save up myself and sacrifice a few of my luxuries we are TTC btw we are just totting up and looking around at how much everything will ideally cost

Download the ebay local app from Martin Lewis. Local pick up stuff narrowed right down - always low bidders in my area.

I wouldn't worry too much then hedwiggity once you are pg he is likely to feel a lot more protective and happy to spend what is needed. Still always worth looking for a bargain though.

I would write a list of top 5 things about the pram that are most important to you i.e. weight, size, 3-4 wheels, size of basket under the pram, good for 'off roading', put up and cllapsable with one hand etc...

Then get onto the Which website and have a look at the different ones that do what you want.
Everyone seems so different with quite what they want out of a buggy/pram/travel system. Places like mothercare are good for going and testing them out a bit closer to time. Also if you have a car make sure you get them to check the car seat you want fits in your car properly, most do, but its worth checking.

I sold a travel system that I had only used for just over a year for £140. However, ideally you should not use a second hand car seat and a decent car seat can cost nearly £100 so your DH will need to be shown how much things actually cost. A quick glance on the internet should re educate him. If money is tight I would spend it on a decent britax/cybex/maxi cosi car seat brand new and then get a second hand buggy/pram combo that is compatible with your seat. Mamas and papas urbo and sola are suitable from birth with no carrycot. I recently sold my second hand urbo for £60. So even with a new car seat that would come in at under £200. In my opinion that is better than getting a bottom of the range system brand new but with a less good car seat.

OH has decided he now likes the carrera 3 in 1 travel system or a nice hauck (which i'm not to sure about) he also likes a red kite zebu one Smile Dsis brought him round to the idea prams cost money and the more you spend the better you get she has forbidden manky 2nd hand prams though on the basis hers were covered in stains and dirt after her DC had finished with them i agree with her on that i want the excitement of open a big pram box im guessing prams have a certain "new smell" to them too id feel robbed of the experience if i bought 2nd hand thanks for all your comments everyone

Petite star often has cheap ones on a friday advertised on their site, or keep an eye on their face book page.

I'm afraid I both agree and disagree with your Dsis. Sorry!! You do get what you pay for with buggies. But... of all of my Mummy mates who bought something quite cheap (around £200) new, now wish they'd gone for a more expensive one second hand. You can get a second hand Quinny or Eye Candy for under £100, a new maxi cosi for £80 and perhaps still have some cash for replacement covers if they're stained. You only get the new buggy smell for a day-you'll have to live with the buggy for 2 years!Smile

NickyEds · 27/05/2014 09:01

You could always show him a brand new Bugaboo at £800 (Shock!) then he wouldn't feel so bad about £2-300! £100-sounds like my OHGrin
