4 wheel off-road (ish) baby moving device needed!

I'm de-lurking in the hope that people with lots more baby/pram experience than me can help! This is harder than buying a car Confused (and almost as expensive!!)

I'm expecting DC1 in 5 months time. DH and I have done some research as to what we think we want pram-wise and we're trying to draw up a shortlist of models to go and try out next time we can get to a big town/city with actual pram shops.

Our requirements are:

-Under £650 for the pushchair and lie flat carrycot (a family member has very kindly offered to buy this for us)
-4 wheels
-Good on pavements but also good in not too bumpy off road environments (forest paths/footpaths/bridleways/back lanes, not v v uneven tracks/hill walking - for that we plan to use a baby carrier). We live in a rural location but most of the paths around us are pretty good.
-Decent suspension/smooth ride
-Would quite like tyres that don't puncture
-Pushchair to be parent and outward facing
-Decent size basket
-Ideally robust enough to last if we are lucky enough to have a second baby

Size when folded isn't important as we have cavernous car boots and plenty of porch space.

Weight isn't particularly important. I'm used to lugging heavy stuff around and on really long weekend walks DH will be there too so we can take turns.

Does anyone have any suggestions for makes/models? Have we missed anything vital???

Any input would be massively appreciated!

Baby jogger versa gt?

We chose the baby jogger city versa gt for many of the reasons you mentioned! But as your baby isn't due for 5 months, I'd hold out for the 2014 deluxe carrycot as (I think) it will suitable for overnight sleeping and the current one (that we have) isn't.

I walk everywhere and at least 5 miles per day and would really recommend our Emmaljunga City Cross.

It does everything you want but doesn't have swivel wheels but personally this has never been an issue for us and I prefer fixed wheels as it makes bumpy paths/kerbs easier to navigate without the wheels turning suddenly jamming the pushchair.

Can I also mention that it is definitely worth while checking out if you have a local sling library to try out different types and see what suits as high street carriers like baby Bjorn are generally pretty dire for you and baby from about 10lbs in terms of comfort and support.

Uppababy vista or baby jogger versa GT? I love the wheels on the bugaboo donkey, I think the buffalo has the same but unless you go second hand it is above your budget.

Ihateparties · 27/04/2014 11:17

As others have said you have described a versa gt. Also yy for waiting for the new carrycot.

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful! We'll definitely look at these suggestions. SqutterNutBaush I've never even heard of a sling library, off to google it now! So much to learn...

I think that for a good ride for the baby on paths etc, you do need real tyres (which of course might puncture, but I never had any problems with my real tyres). You can get 'slime' I believe, to fill tyres with and this stops them puncturing.

Thanks Alice!

Why not a 3 wheeler? If you are walking off road a 3 wheeler will be much nicer to push and probably more stable. Avoid the cheap and nasty ones and you should have no problem.
