Is it worth getting a pushchair for an 18 month old?

I'm not sure whether to get a pushchair or a shopping trolley. I am more in need of portable storage than child transport - a long day of shopping today with the toddler but without my car and I was fine but could have done with something for all the stuff!

Wondering though if it's worth it for an 18 month old, obviously a shopping trolley will last a lot longer and I can train her to pull it She walks fine any trip up to about a mile is fine, so general school runs, playgroup, park, shops etc I wouldn't take it, and for longer trip or general awkwardness I would just carry her.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I would want something that would go up and down stairs easily, though how it would do that if I'd filled it with shopping I don't know...? Lifts are really not an option as phobic.

Or if you'd recommend trolley, any ideas for those? I'd be needing a funky non-Granny variety

I'd say yes to the stroller and maybe a rucksack on the handles.

Not only for the option mentioned above but for necessary outings in horrible weather, if they want a nap for any reason, or if they're poorly, and indeed if you're poorly.

I couldn't lug my ds about other than in the house after about 12 months due to a shouder issue.

Oh we are fully in toddler strop age! Laying on the floor screaming a frequent occurrence!

She can nap when carried and only wants carring when poorly if that makes any difference, bad weather under the brolly,

Just wondering how often an older baby would actually use a stroller, and how you manage on when dc is walking and you have to push anyway. That's what makes me lean towards a trolley as you can drag and hold hands easily, did that with my older dc.

Although I carry my toddlers and definitely have the pushing buggy/handling walking crazy short person issue I could not be without one, I haven't got that level of patience anymore! If you really think you can then get a trolley, I could give you a link to some really cool ones but they cost as much as a decent basic stroller if not quite a bit more... Which possibly defeats the object.

I did the buggy free thing with my older child and have been doing so with this one as well so know I can get about Fine without, but that is an interesting point about price of buggy to trolley, I would have thought trollies were much cheaper. Does anyone have a good Fwcc for a brand of buggy that would do what I want it to (go up and down stairs is priority number one, store a lot is priority two)

To second hand, you can get some amazing buggies. I sold my Maclaren techno xt in mint condition for a snip.

The maclaren s are great but not a huge basket. Not tiny, but not huge.

Checkout gumtree too, not just ebay. We also have a factory seconds type shop that has some buggies in at the minute and a brand new Maclaren quest is less than half price.

If you're not using a buggy now unless you have something particular in mind where you think you'll need one then it seems a bit surplus to requirements. It won't carry the stuff as well as a trolley and will be more awkward to handle when full of things not child... Which sounds like it would be most of the time. Tk maxx have sometimes had modern looking trolleys, circa £30-40, might be worth looking there. There are much cheaper ones than that too obviously, amazon have loads too.

Can you carry a sleeping toddler and pull a trolley?

The carrier carries the child, I have both hands free, I just attach sleepyhead to my back (or kicking screaming rebel, whichever mode she's in)
