Has anyone used Bugaboo Bee from birth?

Has anyone used Bugaboo Bee from birth with the cocoon thingy?? Can you get a carrycot attachment for it?
I can see it would be great for a newborn winter baby as you can zip them in snugly but would it also work for a newborn summer baby bearing in mind it's a bit hot to zip them in to a woolly cocoon in July/August?
Sorry lots of questions!

Currently using our 2008 model bee for two week old dc2 with no problems. His older brother was a summer baby and we used it in the flat position but without a cocoon - friends mum made a basic cotton liner for it and we used a blanket when needed. I don't think you can get a carrycot but the advantage of not having one is that it's very light. The only thing is that folding isn't super easy.

Thanks Wisteria, we had a Bugaboo Gecko with DS1 (who is now 6 so got rid of it ages ago!) loved it but it was too big for our car really and liked the Bee as it's much more compact and like you say there us no messing about with extra carrycot bits. Thank you!

I think the cocoon has a slight wedge to flatten the seat out? I would use a liner too, there are lots of nice ones and custom made ones available now.

I have been using a Bee (2010 model) since birth with a cocoon. It lays almost flat but has a slight incline, which has been useful when DD is a little refluxy.

DD is a summer baby and we didn't have any problems keeping her cool in the cocoon - the front folds down pretty low which helped. Also teamed it with a Breezy Sun Canopy which has UPF 50 but allows the air to circulate.

HTH!

Thanks all, hopefully going to John Lewis tomorrow so will have a proper 'test drive' then! After a couple of nasty scares and hospital visits I'm allowing myself to believe it's all going to be ok and start looking at practical purchases like cots and buggies Smile

Bear in mind that its not always hot in July - my son is a July born baby and he came out of hospital in a woolley jumper! In July the following year the children were in snow suits! Remember as well that within 3 months, it will more than likely be well into autumn and your baby will be still probably snuggly in its cocoon throughout the winter and into spring. The top zips off for summer, but the top gives shade in summer without overheating the baby underneath. I loved the cocoon.

Look also at the iCandy Raspberry - I have high expectations that it will do everything the Bee does but better and will be more sturdy. It is definitely the pushchair to watch for next year.

Thanks Tiggy, I know it's not always 100 degrees in July but usually pretty warm in July/August so was just checking if cocoon would be suitable. Thanks for idea re iCandy but I think we are sold on the Bee now!

We used our Bee from birth and still use it for my 22 month old. He was all snug in his cocoon and when the summer came we just unzipped it. You can get liners for the pushchair if you don't want the cocoon. When he got bigger we bought the footmuff.

I liked that it didn't have a carry cot as it meant I didn't have to find somewhere to store it afterwards. The Bee folds very easily, I love it.

AngryBirdRoast · 30/12/2013 16:22

Not sure on this but there was talk that the Micralite Toro carrycot can be fitted onto the Bee adaptors.

Check before you believe me though, I might have got that wrong!

AlwaysDancing1234 · 30/12/2013 17:25

Thanks AngryBird I will check that out.
We did have a good look at the Bee today and really liked it, the cocoon looks really snug and secure too. We have limited space in car/home so it's a nice compact size, will work well on buses etc too. Grandparents today said as soon as we need it they will buy it (we have been a bit overwhelmed by everyone wanting to buy us things!)

Good choice OP! It really is a compact pram and the great thing about it is it just folds in one, you don't have to remove any bits from it first like so many prams. Also when your child grows you can extend the seat and back.

Now all you have to do is choose which colour to have!

AngryBirdRoast · 31/12/2013 08:36

Only one thing to add which is that you must check that the handles/unfold mechanism are fully engaged while using it - we managed somehow to jolt one of the handles a little bit, without noticing, so it was a bit lopsided - (going over rough ground) and one side wasn't properly 'locked' open - and the next time we went up a kerb, the seat part fell down and the cocoon landed on the ground, with ds in it with his little head just visible at the top, like a small sack of potatoes Smile

He was fine
But it does need to be fully locked open to be safe because the seat depends on the frame being tight.

Also be aware if buying an older Bee that the parent facing fold is not very compact at all. Not sure if this is improved on the Bee+...it probably is.

KongKickeroo · 31/12/2013 08:43

I did, DS now 10 months old, it was/is brilliant Smile It actually felt very secure to have him strapped in as a little baby rather than rattling around in a carrycot, so given a choice between the two I would prefer the Bee with cocoon. I have always used it parent facing and never had difficulty folding or unfolding (although don't do it barefoot, that is tricky!) It's lovely, compact and lightweight.

And if you have someone willing to buy it for you, so much the better Grin

AngryBirdRoast · 31/12/2013 08:48

Is that the Bee+, Kong?

I have the older Bee and when you fold it parent facing it doesn't want to go flat at all - drives me insane!

KongKickeroo · 31/12/2013 13:50

Yes sorry AngryBird it is the Bee Plus! I've not seen the original Bee in real life but they seem quite different beasts from what I've heard.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 02/01/2014 07:08

Thanks everyone, I think we'll be going for the Bee Plus. All of your advice and comments have been very useful, thanks
