Where to start with double pushchairs.

DC#2 is due in Feb. DD can walk but does tire and then wants her pushchair to I need a double. DD is in nursery 2.5 days per week so I was hoping there is a pushchair that is good as a single but I can keep an extra seat in the car for when DD needs it and just clip it in to turn it into a double.

I would also like to be able to clip my Maxi Cosi Pebble on.

I think a Baby Jogger City Select may fulfil this brief?

Are there any others and does anyone have experience of the Select?

Thank you.

We have a double buggy where the second seat unclips, but I don't remember the brand and it isn't here, sorry. (It isn't Baby Jogger, though.)

However, just to say that I find pushing two little ones pretty tiring, and instead I put the smaller one in a sling and the bigger one in a pushchair.

We do have a singleton Baby Jogger though, a Summit, and have been very happy with it. You can definitely go jogging with it!

The select kinda does fit your brief but so do several other things, the oyster max, icandy peach, micralite twofold.. there must be a few more that aren't coming to mind immediately.

The select is great as long as you know what you're getting, which is a pretty sizeable pushchair, it's long as a single. If I needed a sibling tandem I would get an oyster max, it's compact, light, easy to use and I like the seating options well enough. Particularly if the elder child walks some portion of the time. The extra seat positions of the select might tempt me if I had two children in a pushchair full time.

I think that's the problem ihateparties I need to sort through what is best for twins against what is best for two of different ages.

DH is now suggesting we get a Baby Jogger City Mini double and use the Quinny Buzz we already have when DD is in nursery / wants to walk.

I am going to go shopping tomorrow and look at the Oyster Max, City Select and City Mini Double.

I regret not getting an iCandy or similar first time round so I just needed an extra seat now!

I have a select, am using it as a single until ds2 arrives in a few weeks! I love it as a single, it's the best buggy I've had, better than the quinny!! Doesn't fold overly small but no bigger than the quinny and will fit in a corsa boot as a double. I'd recommend you go to a shop and have a play, the only negatives me and dp can think of are that if you get it really muddy it's awkward to clean! I also love the colour Grin

MrsSpencerReid · 26/12/2013 15:40

Also, the select was lighter and easier to manoeuvre than the icandy doubles as they were my first choice until I actually tried them and found I couldn't tip (to go up curbs) the icandy empty!!

Ihateparties · 26/12/2013 17:03

I found the absolute opposite, could not be more opposite, the Icandy peach I found light to turn and tip. I find the select very difficult to tip, even empty. The pear is much clunkier to use than the peach though so if you had tried that your opinion of Icandy pushchairs could easily be different.

The oyster max is also very light, as is the jane twone and the apple2pear. When I needed a sibling tandem I had a twone, it was the lightest to push at the time. I could do everything one handed and deal with errant dc1 with the other hand. During the same period I also used a peach 1, a britax b dual, a smiths toys dimples duo, a mb duet, several other things I can't immediately recall and eventually a pre production oyster max. Because I needed to use things one handed a large portion of the time how easy something was to manoeuvre was very top of my priority list.

For dcs 1 and 2 I had a city mini double and liked it but used it for a shorter period because of access problems. If you have room in your life for a side by side they are much simpler than tandems IMO.

PastaForRudolph · 26/12/2013 19:20

Yes, we have a large car so could fit the Quinny and the double jogger in the boot if needs be.

We also have a large hall and wide front door so the only reason we'd have to have a tandem is access to smaller shops which I think is an issue regardless with small children?

I am concerned that it looks as though the carrycot goes on the bottom with tandems which makes me feel the baby is on the floor!

Mmmhmm that's pretty much it, if that really bothers you above other factors then things like the select are maybe more your cup of tea. It's always a balance between what factors take priority in your situation. Plus you may end up using a double hardly at all or much longer than you anticipate, it can be hard to predict. Getting hands on is the best plan to get a feel for what you want and don't want.

PastaForRudolph · 27/12/2013 20:31

Well, I'm back from the shops and I'm the proud owner of an Oyster Max. It looks lovely and light and very easy to switch between single and double.

DH convinced me to rationalise our pushchair collection and just have this one.

Thank you all for your advice.

:-D @ the rationalising but it's the logical thing. Hope you like it.

PastaandCheese · 29/12/2013 21:54

Can't wait to try it out tomorrow. I've been searching the archives and I didn't realise some MNetters had tried it out pre production so there is lots of info on the old posts.
