Soft Carrycot reviews (for use in BJCM)

Hi All,

I have a single BJCE for which I have the deluxe hard carrycot and have just purchased a BJCMD. Didn't want to fork out to purchase the compact carrycot that clips on as think I will be using single most the time and only occasionally needing to take the double out.

Can see in the past that there are loads of threads about using soft carrycots instead.

The 3 main ones mentioned are

  1. Petite Star Zia Cocoon
  2. Graco Soft Carrycot
  3. Phil and Teds Cocoon

Wanted to know people's experiences with them and what the pros and cons of each are. Are they washable? Easy to secure? Do they have a wedge so baby is flat etc?
Also, do you have any others or any other form of newborn insert to recommend?

Thanks

So far my research has told me:

  1. Petite Star Zia Cocoon - cheapest at £29.99 from nursery value, has a soft harness inside to keep baby secure, has wedge to keep baby on level, major con - not washable - is this correct?

  2. Graco Soft Carrycot - hard to get hold of, goes in washing machine

  3. Phil & Teds Cocoon - expensive at approx £60, looks quite small

Thanks in advance for your help.

On my profile there is a pic of the zia cocoon next to the graco soft cot. I don't know fitting wise as I used them on something else but the graco soft cot is very snug and the zia was by far my favourite of the two. The inner material is nicer, it's bigger, it has the harness and also the hood. Which is preferable if you plan to parent face the baby in it. The Phil and teds has no wedge so would have to go in forward facing.
Hope that's slightly helpful. Although if your cmd will take one by the time I had spent 30 on a soft cot I'd rather spend fifty on a used compact cot.

Very helpful thank you Ihateparties. What's cmd?

I do think I like the sound of the Petite Star one more. Now to convince DH to buy the next bit of kit!!

Oh and one more question - if I do pick up the compact carrycot 2nd hand, is it washable and is it a mattress size that would be easy to replace cheaply with a new one?

I don't know about the compact carrycot, whether it's washable. Most likely surface wash only. Nor do I know the mattress size, I have a feeling it might be a bit narrower than say a Moses basket one. The advice changed though I seem to remember, from don't use a second hand mattress to it's fine if it's in good clean condition? The compact carrycots I have seen for sale have all looked in great condition, maybe people keep them nicely for resale purposes these days.

Cmd - bjcmd :-)
