Triple buggy, double with buggy board or sling?!

I have twins who will be 2yrs 3mo when the new baby arrives and I have no idea what will be the best way to get out and about.

I really don't want to buy another buggy (we have 4 - stroll air, mini city jogger and 2 single maclarens) but I'm not sure the twins will be old enough for a buggy board.

Has anyone managed with a double and a sling? I've been warned that it'll put my back out. Or the double and a buggy board?

Any advice?? Thanks

Stroll air with seated buggyboard? Easy x rider or similar. Keep a sling in the basket.

I would use the double and sling/ board.

If they are 2.3 when baby born, realistically you aren't going to be going to far for a few months when baby is tiny anyway and you will be exhausted. So quick trips baby in sling and older in pram. By 2 1/2 you will find easier to maybe use a board for one.

Same age child here and he walks a fair bit now anyway. Can you get them both used to walking and on board practice before baby is born? It will mean that you can say sling baby and put them in pram across roads, but by the time in park they can walk and baby in pram for a while.

The more walking the better as then hopefully all 3 will be tired for an afternoon nap :)

When I had newborn, one year old and two year old I used double buggy with buggy board and bunged the sling in the basket underneath. If the two year old got tired she could sit in the buggy and I would pop the baby in the sling for a bit. Before long the one year old liked to have a wee go on the board and I just used to mix it up according to who was tired and how sore my back was.

Thanks for your thoughts. Looks like it's going ton have to be a combination and trial and error. Definitely a good idea to practice the board - will definitely give that a try.

The boys can walk and often do but not to and from places - it's impossible to keep hold of them both and get them both heading in the right direction!!

Yes board practice is good. You well end up pushing an empty buggy with them both balanced on the board!

Also get some little life rucksack reins if you don't have already. Means you can hold them easier or in one hand if you need the other free. Especially if you say drive somewhere and just want to get all three inside safely without pram ie doctors visit/ friends house etc.

I did wonder about that artandco - I can see me pushing an empty buggy around a bit. Have little life reins and I can see them getting a lot more use.

Thanks

It won't be empty.. it'll have a baby in won't it?

The orbit with two sidekicks looks soooo cool. I know you didn't want another pushchair but... Grin

That is a piece if kit! And not one I'll be investing in!

Of course it would make sense if the baby was in the buggy but I have a feeling not an awful lot of this is going to go quite to plan...

Hmmm I know what you mean... Grin

But at least you're getting ahead by having that concept in your head early on.

You're well covered on the pushchair front at least without the need to buy anything else!

Artandco · 16/11/2013 08:22

Oh I meant buggy will be empty now if she practices buggy board use before baby if born.

We only had single with 16 month gap. Once youngest could stand they used to both want the board and we would have empty single with both balanced on board!

Now youngest is 2.5 years we only use a buggy if he's sick/ it's pouring with rain or we are out all day. If out say 9-1 we don't bother. So I'd imagine if 2.3 when born you will only have 6 months or so max of permenant use so a triple would be an expensive buy.

Seeing as you already have such a good double if whichever twin isn't in the pushchair needs a harness (oh boy have all my kids needed a harness at 2 but that's not necessarily relevant, yours might not being as they are entirely different children in an entirely different scenario) then an easy x rider buggy board would certainly act as a 3rd harnessed seat for a child of that age. They can get out if they put some thought in sure but it takes a lot longer than throwing themselves off a standing buggyboard.

Hats off to those of you who have small age gaps and never used a double, I couldn't have done it!

Its absolutely not safety approved, and I am not recommending it - but I have been known to lie one of my Baby Jogger seats flat, lie the baby on the very back part harnessed in, and then seat a toddler on the seat pad at the front with another harness on. It works well with a newborn and a sensible toddler who doesn't nap, and may be something to assess for yourself. There's plenty of space for both.
