Any lie flat car seats compatible with Bugaboo Donkey or Apple 2 Pear?

MultipleMama · 29/09/2013 16:51

I may have to travel with newborns in the car for extended periods when we move. Are there any that are compatible?

We may not be able to fly so are their any pushchairs that can have two lie flat car seats?

Jane do a lie-flat car seat which is compatible with their Powertwin and twin-two double buggy. There may be more but those are the two that I know of.

bundaberg · 29/09/2013 21:55

i'm not sure there are... but could you not just use carrycots on the pram?

bundaberg · 29/09/2013 21:55

research the seats though, i think some were found to be pretty unsafe. I think the Britax one was good on safety front, but bear in mind you'll find it hard to fit 2 into the car and other people in! i think they take up about a seat and a half each

bundaberg · 29/09/2013 22:00

you can fit ONE Britax one on the B-dual. that's not much help

About 4 yrs ago I remember mamas and papas did A reclining infant carrier that was compatible with the bugaboo cameleon (the donkey wasn't about then) so maybe worth checking that out. I do remember it was quite heavy though which put us off and I have a vague memory that it had to be in the up right position in the car anyway which kinda defeats the whole point, I could be making that up though. The maxi cosi does have some padding that means they're not too scrunched up x

MultipleMama · 29/09/2013 22:11

We need lie flats more for the car than the pram as we already have carrycots. We would be driving from UK to Germany as a back up plan.

Tempted to buy, use and then send them back. I really don't want to borrow car seats even though a friend has 2 matrix lights.

But we'd like if the lie flats were compatible so we could use them on one of our double stroller as only our Donkey has carrycots.

I don't understand how you could buy, use and send them back unless they were faulty?

Ihateparties · 29/09/2013 22:21

You may be better off asking a retailer about this. The besafe seats physically go on maxi cosi adaptors but it's not that simple, especially on a tandem where there are more tipping issues and more points on the frame that the seats may interact with (as it not physically fit between parts of the frame).

MultipleMama · 29/09/2013 22:39

That's why I was sort of hoping that certain lie flats were not just compatible but like tried and tested on these strollers. If not then we'll just have to buy two.

Was joking about the using and sending back! Hoping to avoid buying two just for the sake of a 9 hour drive but doesn't look like we'll have a choice if we can't fly.

i think the problem is that as they're so large it's going to be pretty difficult to physically fit 2 of them onto most frames tbh...

MultipleMama · 29/09/2013 23:22

2 can go on the jane twone but we sold ours when the twins were few months old. Looks like we'll just have to buy 2 then if we can't fly. Hope we can fly!

How would you fit 2 lie flat seat in your car. They take up two seats in the car.

MultipleMama · 30/09/2013 08:11

I have an 8 seater that has 4 isofix points and we have DH's company car too.

How about a second hand loola for the trip? The Windoo carrycot can be fixed onto the car seatbelts and enables an infant to lie flat. I never used mine in the UK though, so you'll need to check on compatibility with the safety standards.

MultipleMama · 30/09/2013 12:11

Thanks, Signora. I'll look into them.

If it's a one of f, the baggies should be fine in their current car seats provided you stop every two and h half hours for about half am.hour our so, which is what's recommended for long drives anyway. Can you break the journey overnight?

MultipleMama · 30/09/2013 13:14

We thought of stopping in Paris but it's the cost and finding a decent place for 2 adults & 6 DC 5 and under. We need to discuss it more but I was hoping to have lie flats just because I feel they'll be better for my Preemie babies even though we still plan on making rest stops.

The main problem is most lie flat car seats can't actually lie flat when driving. Ie the besafe izi sleep should fit on bugaboo donkey, but you have you sit up when driving. But they would mean you could take them out everytime you stop for lunch/ toilet etc and lay them flat for a little while

homeaway · 03/10/2013 14:59

I think Paris would be expensive to stay in, did i understand correctly that you would have newborn twins and then 3 under 5 ?
Ibis hotels do rooms for families but you probably would have to take two rooms , you could put the babies in carrycots and then " share" the others between you with one adult in each room. The rooms have a double bed and single in them. Fomular 1 and Etape have bunk beds in their family rooms....

MultipleMama · 03/10/2013 17:21

We'd have Preemie twins (we were born on Tuesday :) ) and 4 under 5. 5,2 and 12 month old twins.

I'll look into those hotels, thanks.

Btw if travelling I recommend the baby bjorn Travel cots as fold up really small compared to the others and are suitable up to a much older age as can't be rocked over

A bit late but found this thread while researching options for our upcoming twins - and registered to help anyone still looking (my wife is already a member).

The only lie flat car seat that is compatible with the bugaboo I managed to find is the Cybex Cloud Q - which has received raving reviews, including named as one of the best lie flat seats of 2018 on mumsnet (this is how I found out about it), but is of course expensive :(.

Hope this helps any one else researching the topic!

jubbablub · 04/02/2018 07:35

@Twinsdaddy The cloud q has to be in an upright position when driving in the car. You can use the lie flat mode when the car seat is on a pram.

Flipflopflipflap · 05/02/2018 19:13

Kiddy evolution pro 2 or eco lunafix also lies flat in the car. I know I’m LATE to the party but oh well
