ds 9 months, have to return loaned travel system. what next?

so many options...
we'll need a pushchair (prefer parent facing or option of) and car seat (prefer rear facing but can't do isofix)
do we:
a) get a 0+ car seat and pushchair which will also fit car seat and make it last - ds is quite average size and we could use this up to 13kg??
b) get a RF 9 month+ car seat and a separate pushchair

we love being able to transfer him asleep from car to pram but know this won't last forever.

ds is pfb, there may be siblings in the future so could make further use of a from newborn system but not necessarily

we'll have to buy a next size up car seat at some point, would it be sense to make the move now?

need something that is light and folds away easily

could do with being all terrain as we're moving to the country

any recommendations appreciated. I don't have much of a clue as the loan of a system meant we never thought of other options.

anything we get will probably be second hand - tight budget - we need to get it right first time. Confused

TIA x

Get a 0+,1 stage car seat (britax something, will link in a min)
There will be such a short time that you'll be able to move the seat from the car to the pushchair its just not worth it.

Umbrella folding is the obvious choice, but not aware of parent facing ones. What about something like an Oyster?

DoItTooJulia · 13/08/2013 15:00

What about the joie stages car seat? I think they do a pushchair too. I think at this stage i would go for a Maclaren techno xt and a rf car seat. However, this being mumsnet, I am sure someone will be along soon saying, nooooo! Get a new infant carrier! Wink and a second hand bugaboo bee!

EeyoreIsh · 13/08/2013 15:02

Can I hijack to ask about loaning the travel system? I didn't realise this was possible!

grateful for any info.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Britax First Class.
Infant carriers say up to 13kg but DS outgrew his before he got to this weight - his head would have been over the top by 13kg.

98percentchocolate · 13/08/2013 15:07

The brutal first class combination car seat is fantastic and will last until about 3 years old. It won't clip onto your pushchair but will last from this stage onwards. As he would be going to forward facing at about 15 months (in line with the law changes soon) anyway I wouldn't waste your money on a new infant carrier. The britax first class or other combination car seat would be perfect for you.

i would buy an extended rear-facing car seat (9kg+) and a pushchair

RobotHamster · 13/08/2013 15:11

Lol at brutal car seat Grin

PrunellaDeVille · 13/08/2013 15:13

wow, responses, hooray.

robot - thanks for the link, it doesn't say if it is seatbelt fixed, is it?

Eeyore - sorry should have said - on loan from b/sil but they expecting in October. don't know of any hireage options I'm afraid.

do it - could I fit a 0+ car seat onto a McLaren techno if we had another lo? or doesn't it work like that?

EeyoreIsh · 13/08/2013 15:24

prunella Oh, I thought that seemed too good to be true!

PrunellaDeVille · 13/08/2013 15:27

thanks robot, that's more affordable new than I'd imagined. and long lasting too...

so option b seems to be the concensus.

now to find an off-roading lightweight folding pushchair that might be useable for a newborn and attaching a newborn carseat at a later date! or am I asking too much?? Smile

DoItTooJulia · 13/08/2013 15:30

Sorry, it's the xlr that will take a car seat.

thisisyesterday · 13/08/2013 15:42

no, you need a baby jogger

the city mini will do what you want, but isn't parent facing. you could buy a versa which is though but fairly expensive

98percentchocolate · 13/08/2013 16:29

Oops! Britax! Not brutal! (Though, have you seem some of the colours? They're pretty brutal! Wink)

The Maclaren techno xt doesn't allow you to clip a car seat in unfortunately but if you want a stroller that does then the britax be agile is pretty good. You can only clip their Baby Safe group 0 car seat into it but it clips on easily and is a very nice little stroller. It folds smaller than the Maclaren too if space is a consideration.

PrunellaDeVille · 13/08/2013 16:53

will definitely check out all these suggestions, thank you.

is there a website that let's you break down your options by criteria? like rear facing, all terrain etc

OP posts:
RobotHamster · 13/08/2013 16:59

mountain buggy might be an option ?

You could try a more specific thread I this section asking for a lightweight, all terrain, parent facing buggy that will take a car seat? I'm not sure it exists though.

I reckon baby jogger would be a good one to check out.

PinkPepper · 13/08/2013 18:11

Look at njoy bubble I love mine, it's parent facing umberella fold buggy.
