Bugaboo bee or city mini?

Hi, I'm finding it hard to decide between the two! City mini is better price and folds up really small but bugaboo is great and baby faces you even when not in the car seat. I can't decide! Any reviews/opinions would be helpful, thanks!

I have had 3 different pushchairs so far and my city mini is by far my favourite. Easy to manoeuvre, great size hood and as you said folds really small. My little man has always liked facing forward and having a good nosey around.

The thing is, we'll be using it from birth until they're out of it (we only want to buy one) and the problem with the city mini is you can't have a bag hanging off the back (when they're just lying in the main part as a newborn). So where does the big baby bag go? Or did you use the carrycot?

City mini. All the bee owners I know have replaced them with minis.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 03/08/2013 13:55

Had the carry cot. Worth the money. And hung the bag on the back. Tut tut.

soapnuts · 03/08/2013 13:58

bee - all the city mini owners i know have been jealous of my bee! only thing better about the mini IMHO is the fold and that's not so much better that i'd sacrifice the rest of the advantages - I'm using mine for the a second child at the moment and it;s brill - can't fault it! especially how easy it is to push - have a P&T too and i'm always glad to get back to the bee (and i like the P&T too!)

Thanks - I'm more confused though Grin Sounds like both are good options.

think (or anyone else with city mini), did you hang your bag on the back only when the carry cot was in? (as seems dangerous if you just had the newborn in there and no carry cot, with its head where the bag would bang against?) Did you have the carry cot that slots in so the baby is facing you?

Although I know ninja said the carrycot was too flimsy for her baby? Did anyone else find that or did their baby like it?

I have a city mini and hang a change bag on the back but ds isn't a newborn-we bought the city mini when he was 6 months and had a ritual burning of the silver cross tank

Ihateparties · 03/08/2013 19:55

Yes yes, defo look at them. Together if you possibly can, they really are quite different. The new oyster gem is also another contender for the "i only want to buy one pushchair ever" thing.

Alexandra6 · 03/08/2013 21:18

Spent ages in john Lewis looking at them both!! Grin Confused

Good to know a bag can go on the back then, at least from 6 months - presume that was without the carrycot? And hopefully I can still have bag with the more protected carrycot before then?

Was hoping to use the carrycot as long as poss for rear facing but not sure whether the baby will like being in it or not!

Being so indecisive!! Thanks for replies though!

yep we didn't have the carrycot. If you are worried about the bag issue I think baby jogger do their own bag which clips on? Not cheap though of course!

Alexandra6 · 03/08/2013 21:51

Thanks, although I couldn't find the bag anywhere or on john Lewis online! I might ask them in store if they can help track the special bag down - and how much it cost!

Anyone with the carrycot - can you see the baby properly when rear facing?

I'd want a long term parent facing option myself. I miss our little chats when he front faces. Plus there were a good 6 months when front facing made him scream Sad

Alexandra6 · 03/08/2013 22:13

Eek really?! Anyone else had that experience? Or are some babies fine with facing away? Not sure when it would be too big for the carrycot.

This is the Baby Jogger bag. It attaches on at the side using a bracket.

I had a Bee for about 15 months and I absolutely could not get to grips with it. I loved what it did in theory, but its too light to push, the fold is fiddly, the seat recline wasn't that easy and all round it was hard work especially opening with the seat RF - I used to keep falling over. I am SO glad its gone.
Have you looked at the Versa because parent facing is nice?
My son too would cry if he couldnt see me.
You can see the baby fine in the Baby Jogger City Mini carrycot and it should last the necessary 6 months.

I agree with Parties to have a look at the Oyster Gem too. Fabulous little pushchair.

I'm having this same exact dilemma! My dd is now 27 weeks and enjoys sitting really upright in her pram and facing me so I'm steering towards the bee at the minute! But I love the fold on the city mini!
They should create a city mini/bee cross breed and it would be perfect!

Ihateparties · 10/08/2013 13:53

The versa folds like the city mini. It's not small like the bee though.

ZebraZeebra · 10/08/2013 20:02

I have had the city mini since birth and we didn't use the carrycot. I never had a problem with him facing forward but it's hard to tell on the individuality of your baby. My decision was between the Bee and the City Mini - I really wanted the Bee but my decision making for the buggy was light and one hand-foldable so I had to sacrifice the rear-facing aspect. So I just had to hope DS was alright forward facing - and it's never been an issue. Sometimes I wish I could turn him round but not so much that I wish I didn't have the city mini. I couldn't be doing with hauling anything else up 20 steps to my flat.

The bag thing - never even occurred to me that it'd be a problem! I just got a cheap satchel type bag from Primark, and lengthened the strap so it hangs just below the back of the seat when it's flat.

It's not an easy thing, choosing a buggy. The Bees look so lovely but I am really, really glad I got the City Mini from the perspective of only getting one buggy.

www.bestbuggy.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Bee-June-Scoot-Strawberry-Versa-102.jpg The fold isnt that much different between the Bee and the Versa! Yes the Versa is wider but even with the front wheels left on (which make the Versa a good hmmm 25cms longer than it is without them on) the Versa is a similar length folded and its definitely flatter folded. The Bee is a fair chunk folded because of the curved bars. The Cameleon folds flatter than the Bee. But yes the Bee is narrower folded and open :)
