Joolz Day vs Bugaboo Cameleon3 - which is better?

Pinkpumpkins · 02/08/2013 15:19

Just that really. I've hardly noticed anyone pushing a Joolz Day and I'm wondering if there's a good reason for this?

Both DH and I are tall and I like the fact that the pram in Joolz sits much higher up than the Cameleon. I also prefer the look of Joolz as well. However, the Bugaboo design seems more slick than Joolz in terms of being able to fold it down, adjust handrail etc.

So undecided - I'm even wondering if its crazy to shell out £800 for a buggy?!

Can anyone out there help a first-time mum in her endeavours to find a suitable travel system???

Thank you!

Joolz Day definitely. I & dh are tall too & we both love our Joolz. I have back problems too & the Joolz is fab as I don't really need to bend down to put dd in it.

I hate bugaboos with a passion thoughShock!

Something to bear in mind though, the Joolz is a brilliant, brilliant pushchair, but very heavy & bulky. I've very recently bought a lightweight stroller for when I need to use the bus (dd is 10 mo & I don't drive) - its just something to think about later on down the line

Forgetfulmog · 02/08/2013 15:26

Oh & I love the fact that the Joolz is quite uncommon - I get loads of compliments about it Smile

MaryKatharine · 02/08/2013 15:28

I hated my bugaboo and got rid afte a couple of months. Have you also looked at the uppababy vista? We got that after the bugaboo and loved it. It was so much better in every way and higher if you're taller.

Forgetfulmog · 02/08/2013 15:32

Oh yes the Uppababy - that was my preferred one before the Joolz, but the Joolz won as it is taller than the uppababy & I needed the height

Pinkpumpkins · 02/08/2013 18:35

No, we've not looked at Uppababy - thanks for the tip, will take a look.

The hefty weight of Joolz is also a negative for me, but I don't think I'll be using public transport much.

Forgetfulmog - if you don't mind me asking, how big is your car? We currently drive a VW Polo & want to buy a car with a larger boot. Some people are advising us to buy an estate, but the jump from a polo to an estate seems huge, and I'm not sure if I can park an estate!

Ihateparties · 02/08/2013 18:53

People go nuts about cars imo Grin.. we have 3 under 6 and an ibiza estate (which ultimately is 15cm longer than the ibiza hatch, same platform as the polo). There's loads of space in the boot. We could have got by with the hatch really. We didn't want to run/park/drive a car bigger than it needed to be.

I previously had a yaris (1cm off fitting the 3 car seats in) and most thing fitted in the boot if you took bits off or removed the parcel shelf. Depending on your lifestyle most people end up with a smaller simpler, lighter pushchair for their boot.

MaryKatharine · 02/08/2013 19:11

I think the car thing definitely depends on your lifestyle. I have 4dcs and drive a big discovery.
Ihateparties, I'm amazed that you were able to fit 3 car seats across the back of a small car. Where they toddler seats? My toddler britax isofix things were/are enormous and take up nearly half the back seats. With two in there, there isn't even enough room for someone to sit between them let alone squeeze another car seat in.
As for the lifestyle thing, we go camping a lot and also go away for weekends at lot so once you factor in clothes for 6 of us, a pushchair and a travel cot there's not much room left even in my truck of a car. Maybe I'm just rubbish at packing! Grin

Ihateparties · 02/08/2013 19:49

Lol probably not, we have ended up with "compact" versions of stuff like travel cots, pushchairs, car seats etc. Camping would be interesting... More children, more seats, more clothes, more stuff - bigger car Grin We won't manage with a small car forever but right now we do.

It certainly is a lifestyle thing, all i meant really is going from no dcs to 1 you don't have to get a big car if you don't want to. Didn't express myself particularly well? Smile

MaryKatharine · 02/08/2013 19:55

Oh I wasn't criticising or questioning what you were saying. I was more in awe that you managed to get by. We live fairly rural so the 4x4 is, I wouldn't say vital but certainly very useful in winter. Plus, we do cart around more junk then necessary. We each keep a pair of willies and a rolled up kagool in the car so that probably takes up a fair bit of space. Did I mentioned also have a roofrack??? I need to declutter! Grin

MaryKatharine · 02/08/2013 19:56

Omg!!!!! That should obviously be wellies that we each keep in the car. wellies. Bloody auto correct! Blush

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 02/08/2013 20:01

I've not had the cameleon 3 but had version 1&2. Ive also had a joolz and an uppababy vista. Out of the threeud go for the vista eevery time but out of your original choices it would be the joolz. Its much easier touse the seat is better for that in between stage at around 12 months when they don't want to be laid back but the cam seat position means they are too upright causing them to slump and slouch.

Forgetfulmog · 02/08/2013 20:01

No I don't mind at all Smile

We've got a Skoda (shit, can't remember what it's called, but it's an estate if that helps Blush). I would think you would be ok with the Joolz in a VW polo - they have big boots don't they?

Tbh though, if you're not bothered about the height of the actual carrycot/pushchair then I would go with the uppababy - it's cheaper (when we were looking last year I think you could get the entire travel system for about £600). The only reason we went with the Joolz was because of my back issues. They are brilliantly made though - as I don't drive, I walk everywhere & I have used the Joolz every day for the past 10 months & there's barely a mark on it. I even had some dickhead cyclist ride into the carrycot at top speed (he was coming down a slight hill, on the pavement Angry) & there's a slight scuff on the it, but dd didn't even wake up Blush).

Forgetfulmog · 02/08/2013 20:15

Willies GrinGrinGrin

Ihateparties · 02/08/2013 20:25

Shock at the cyclist and at the pair of willies Grin

I hear lots of great things about the vista, ditto the joolz although as you say it's not as common. In this case I don't believe that's any sort of bad sign. If the price is too Shock then I know they come up second hand for a great deal less. The Joolz seat is longer/taller than the vista, if there is a chance you will have a long child and want to use it into the toddler years this could be a factor?

Forgetfulmog · 02/08/2013 20:35

Yes good point about the seat actually - dd is v long - & that is definitely something to consider especially as both you & dh are tall so therefore likely to have tall children.

Someone mentioned about the seat recline in the Joolz - it has 3 positions, flat, part-flat & upright. Until dd was about 5 months, I used the carrycot exclusively. Then from 5 to about 7 months, she was in the pushchair with it fully flat. From 7-8 months I used the part-flat recline & then have had her in the upright position ever since - she loves looking out now & seems happy to sleep upright too

Sophialeroy1 · 02/08/2013 21:06

Still laughing at wilies, I'm so childish Blush

MaryKatharine · 02/08/2013 21:48

Just realised that both my iPhone and iPad make that, ahem, autocorrect. My computer doesn't. So I'm guessing that wellies is not a term used by Americans. I wonder what they call wellies?!?
Totally off topic, I know.

Tiggywunkle · 04/08/2013 17:11

LOL MaryKatharine ;)

To be honest, it depends on your lifestyle. If you are very car based look at a Cameleon, or even better the Buffalo if you want the seat height. If you walk a lot then the Joolz would probably be nicer than the Cam, but I would prefer the Buffalo.
I just didnt get on with the Joolz - its VERY heavy and bulky. It was like lugging a boulder around which became tiresome. It just seemed huge in my hall too.
I had seen somewhere that the Joolz has the tallest seat back of any pushchair, but I discovered the other day that another few pushchairs have taller seat backs combined with longer leg length (more important as a child grows), so its probably not a good enough reason to buy it.

I honestly would stick with your smaller car, and get a smaller lighter pushchair :)

Pinkpumpkins · 04/08/2013 17:47

Hi everyone

Thanks so much for all your replies, really useful feedback.

I love how this thread has ended up being about willies - never thought a pushchair conversation could make the transition onto that topic lol!

Good to know that we don't need to get a huge car...especially since we don't have a money tree in the garden! I love my little Polo, but its only got 2 doors, so we'll have to upgrade to something with 4 doors...a Golf would be my choice of car as its not too "big" to drive.

Oddly enough, we've just returned from John Lewis today having looked at the Buffalo - but that felt a bit too bulky for us. We're going to take a final look at the Cameleon/joolz next week and make a decision.
