Pram push chair for a new born

Any advice on a pram system for a new born. Would need to fold down and fit in a Ford Fiesta boot so not the biggest in the world.

Looked at a car seat, pram and push chair system combined but do we need need the pram part or will a push chair system with a car seat be all we need.

How long is it safe to keep a young baby in a car seat type on a pram, every time a walk past a baby in one I am not sure they are looking comfortable.

We seem to find a pram we like and then read negative reviews... The power of the internet.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

A newborn should be in a car seat, I think, no longer than 30 mins. As they get older, I think this rises to no more than 2 hours. This time includes travelling time too. If you are doing more than just nip into a shop or the doctors or something quick, then you should always remove the baby from the car seat and put them into a carrycot or a lie flat seat. This will allow your baby to stretch out and give their internal organs space to grow whilst they sleep, plus it reduces the risks of breathing issues. I am not a car seat buff as such, but car seats really should only be used in the car.

Reviews are a kicker like that, it's hard to sift through I agree.

My initial thought would be to look at the sort of thing you will be doing with your pushchair and the sort of terrain you will be covering. Also how often you will fold and unfold it, do you mostly drive, or mostly walk or a combination of both? Your needs will be different depending on the answers to these questions.

You don't technically speaking need the carrycot/pram top part if the seat of your chosen pushchair is lie flat and suitable from birth. If you walk a lot from your house then a carrycot is useful (wheel sleeping baby into house, remove layers, do not disturb), if you go everywhere by car then perhaps they are less useful as there is more moving of baby from place to place during an outing. You are right about car seats btw, ideally you would not use them outside the car but in practise that's hard to achieve, for very short outings it can be handy to be able to put the seat on the chassis but it isn't a necessity really.

What models were you interested in so far?
