Have a BJCM, but want parent-facing for DC2...

I currently have a BJCM, but am TTC DC2 and am not sure it'll be right for a newborn?

When DS was small we used a borrowed iCandy Cherry (until about 1yo), and bought our BJCM around the time he started forward facing in the Cherry (and the inlaws needed it back for their DC2!).

I had assumed I'd carry DC2 in a sling most of the time as DS may still be using the pushchair quite a lot (26mo now), or use the carseat adapters on the BJCM for the baby if DS is ok walking longer distances.
Will that work ok? Confused
(With DS we used his carseat on the Cherry a lot when he was small, as he was refluxy and far more comfortable in that than the carrycot.)

If not, any suggestions for a pushchair than can face either way and is suitable from newborn?
I mostly walk everywhere, boot size isn't an issue (Honda Jazz), and am hoping not to need a double as DS should be a stronger walker by then.

Please and thank you! Thanks

You can easily add a carrycot to the BJCM, or a soft cot like a Bugaboo Cocoon onto the lie flat seat for the baby. If you get something like the Bugaboo Cocoon (and loads of manufacturers make cocoons these days so have a look around) then the baby is strapped inside, which means if they have reflux, you could sit the seat up a little whilst keeping them snug in the cocoon.

Otherwise look at the Baby Jogger Versa - the box it comes in is smaller than the BJCMGT box. The Glider board fits onto the Versa really well too. You would need a carrycot though (or car seat adaptors for very short periods of time). I was also just talking about the Graco Evo on another thread. That is a very good pushchair and would suit either child. The Evo has a lie flat, suitable from birth seat, but there are also carrycot and car seat options. Look also at the Mutsy Evo and Igo - both I believe are suitable from birth without a carrycot.

I'm using my bjcm with dc2 too.
I've bought the hard carry cot and its brilliant. The adaptors (IMHO) are better than the ones that fit into the centre unit (belly bar, hood etc) as the sit much lower. In fact, I've managed to place ten even lower than the instructions state. I found the carrycot was a little too high otherwise.

The carrycot seems very big. DC2 is nearly 5 months (but a preemie) and it'll last forever months yet.
I've taken the seat cover off easily to fit the cot. Can still fold the pushchair super quick etc.

Oh, and look around. I managed to get the carrycot brand new £80. They're around £40-£50 on eBay. And I got it in blue instead of black!
One of the best investments here. DC2 wouldn't have managed in the pushchair (being only 3.5lbs when left hospital). I did consider swapping the push air for rear facing but was reluctant as I love the bjcm. Now I feel I have the best of both worlds. (btw, dc1 was in forward facing bjcm from birth-totally fine).

Thank you for your help ladies! Not able to sleep either eh... :)

Would a Phil & Teds cocoon fit do you think? I know where I can borrow one of those!
Do you attach the cocoons into the pushchair in any way, or just sit them in the reclined seat?
I couldn't see how it would work, as my BJCM seat doesn't recline to flat, it's still up a bit at the fullest extension. Confused

I'll definitely look at getting the carrycot, but DS was such a horror in his that I hadn't even considered it. Silly.
I've just never really got my head around carrycots - somehow seems weird for them to lie in a pushchair without being strapped in!

The BJCM doesnt lie absolutely flat, but with the weight of the baby in, it meets guidelines for newborn use.
I dont like babies in a carrycot not strapped in, but you always have the option to add a harness to a carrycot. I liked using the Bugaboo coccon for that reason though - the pushchair harness goes on the baby inside the cocoon. I am sure you could make a P&Ts cocoon work somehow.

The BJCM carrycot fixes on using adapters (different adapters than the ones the car seat uses).

I have one, but only used it a handful of times as Ds2 was only usually in the pram for short periods so I found it easier to clip the car seat onto the base. I also removed the seat from the chassis while he was just using the car seat or carrycot. It made the whole thing a lot lighter, kept the seat clean for when he was ready for it, and created more space behind for a buggy board and access to the basket.

When I said I found it easier to clip the car seat onto the base, I meant onto the pushchair!

Thank you for all these tips, it's really helpful! Thanks

I was looking stuff up last night, getting quite carried away. Have had a stern talk with myself and am going to stick to research only until I'm past 12 weeks. :)
