Help needed please with deciding on which double to go for

Hello all, hoping some experienced double users or pushchair experts can help me.

Number 2 due in December when ds will be 16 mo so I guess I'm going to need a double. Currently have an Uppababy Vista that I've used since birth with 11mo ds. Reasons I love it are large sturdy carrycot, good for the fair amount of walking I do, high seat position and good built in sunshades.

Criteria for the double:

  • I'm obsessed with parent facing so must do this for both
  • don't use public transport much and have car with large boot
  • would like carrycot option for baby if possible

Any suggestions of what might be worth a look wise mumsnetters? I spent so long researching every aspect of singles to come up with the vista but I don't know where to start with doubles!

TIA

With wanting them both parent facing the list of possibles shrinks significantly.

Bugaboo donkey, stroll air my duo and any number of other things wider than a standard door (ie 77cm and over).

A few tandems.. the baby jogger city select, the brevi ovo twin and the obaby zoom. I don't hear much good about the zoom but the select could be good for you as your age gap will be relatively small but ultimately it is heavy to push, tip and turn compared to many other doubles.

To be honest, you have limited the selection right down wanting parent facing for both children.
I would suggest the Bugaboo Donkey and Stroll Air My Duo are probably the best for two parent facing children - whilst yet both fit through a standard doorway. There are other side by sides which parent face, but unless I am mistaken, I think all of them are wider than a standard doorway - and to be honest I wouldnt go wider than 76cms unless you really plan to never go into a standard doorway eg baby clinic, doctors, bank, shops.

Tandem wise, its easier to get one child parent facing - especially the baby for the first 6 months - than it is to get two parent facing. The iCandy Pear, Casual Play S-Twinner and Baby Jogger City Select for example both in theory have two parent facing seats, however in reality, you can only see one child. After that, you really start to compromise in other areas such as quality or manoeuverability or seat size eg the O'Baby Zoom, the Bebecar One&Two, the Kidz Kargo Duellette, the Kolcraft Contours - although on at least 3 of these the view of the children is better.

Thank you for your responses, wow I didn't realise the list would be so significantly reduced by wanting both parent facing. And by the sound of it no, I definitely don't want to go wider than a standard door.

Will have a look at all suggestions. Do you know of anywhere I can go and look at the Stoll Air My Duo?

And in your honest opinions am I being crazy and missing out on some fantastic doubles by wanting both parent facing?

I think for a side by side pushchair, then the Donkey and Stroll Air are good choices. However both are on the largeish side - but you said that isnt an issue.
Just to look at the alternatives - other good side by sides are the Baby Joggers - City Mini and GT, TFK Twinner Twist Duo, Nipper V3 and the Bumbleride Indie Twin. I am only suggesting these though because a quick Google will show you what is the alternative. On all of these the seats forward face only, but the carrycot can rear face.

I think however, if you want a tandem ie inline pushchair, then its a different story. I would absolutely swap parent facing for something easy to push and manoeuvre which doesn't feel very long and has some quality behind it. The best tandems IMHO are the two iCandys - the Peach Blossom 2 (not 1) and the new Apple 2 Pear; the Babystyle Oyster Max; the Baby Jogger City Select, the Mima Kobi and I will throw the Micralite Twofold in there although its early days with it. But with all of these you need to think carefully about if your eldest will nap because there are compromises with an older napping child with some of these.

I have the obaby zoom for the twins and I like it. I keep a Graco sport duo in the car as its really light and small but keep the obaby for walks as its better off road than the Graco. Babies can face out, face each other or face me
It wouldn't be my first choice but I just happened to see a second hand one going for £70 so seemed a bargain - not sure it's worth the few hundred it retails for though
