Am I being too picky??

I can't find any pram I like!!
Ones that have taken my liking are the likes of: Jané Slalom (not too much the Trider!!), uppababy, babyzen, candy apple/peach.

Ideally I'd love a 3 wheeled travel system (so carrycot, pushchair seat and car seat), with the pushchair seat that is reversible. And a large hood cover. Something sturdy, strong, the steers well.

This thing is going be used everywhere: we live in a small Welsh town, my partner is from Norway so we shall use it in their mountainous countryside, and the flat countryside of Cambridgeshire as well. So the pushchair will go on trains, planes and cars.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or any comments on the ones above? I really am stuck! - I'm not too bothered about price if I think it's good (however those expensive ones of the market, the bugaboo and the stokke xplory both look very ugly!!)

Please don't say I'm looking for perfect and perfect doesn't exist :(

Having had a number of 3 wheelers and wanting everything you did - i now have and prefer the uppababy vista - the 2 front wheels are much bigger than more 4 wheelers (and cope better than the icandy did - well for me at least) and can be locked and i find it much sturdier off road than our phil & teds - Haivng had 20+ buggies this is as close to perfect as they come in my opinion xx

I think you are looking for perfect and it doesn't exist.
My one worry is that you are talking about taking relatively vulnerable pushchairs on many flights. Next time you go on a flight watch what happens to the pushchairs. They get bags thrown on top of them, they get dropped metres to the tarmac etc. Even with a padded travel bag, I wouldnt want everyone else's suitcases thrown on top. I have seen cracked and broken pushchairs. I think there are 'better' pushchairs for flying with eg an umbrella fold or a flat fold eg Baby Jogger which are less likely to get damaged than say an Apple or Peach. Thats not to say there aren't 10001 MNters on here who have travelled fine with their pushchair but I think to travel regularly I would buy something robust.

Honestly, I think I would buy an off roader to leave out in Norway - something cheap but off road. I would find something lighter - whether a sling or an umbrella fold or even a Babyzen YoYo to travel with (once the baby is old enough), and then buy a pushchair for the UK which will cope with public transport, like the pushchairs you mention above.

Thank you both :) I hadn't thought about the throwing around on a plane so thank you Tiggywunkle! But you can take them on board can't you? I think the babyzen can fit in the overhead compartments..
Compared to yesterday, babyzen is the favourite followed by the uppababy.

The Babyzen YoYo (and the Noa) are the only two pushchairs that I have heard of that have gone into an overhead locker. Its very rare to have a pushchair allowed into the cabin - they usually get taken off you at the gate and then put into the hold. But the YoYo isnt suitable from birth. I am assuming you are looking at the Recaro Babyzen for a newborn, not the Yoyo? Although a Recaro Babyzen and a Babyzen YoYo would make a pretty good combination :) I have had both and loved them both. Very neat folding pushchairs.

I'm not thinking of the yoyo, sorry I hate that one! I like the zen and the yoga. :) I'm glad you like the brand though, that reassures me :)

You wont get the Recaro Babyzen in and overhead locker! Its much too large!

"an" not "and"!

Baby Jogger Elite or Summit?

Debs75 · 19/07/2013 22:54

A decent sling might be your answer for the early months. I mean a decent woven wrap or soft buckled carrier. (Try www.paxbaby.com or look on the sling threads). Not a commercial buckle one

Saying that it is never too late to start carrying. . DD is almost 3 and we have just bought a lovely woven wrap so much easier to take her to nursery then arguing about her buggy

alice93 · 19/07/2013 22:59

Debs75 I shall definitely be getting a sling, most likely a BabyBjörn as I know my boyfriend will refuse to use a cloth wrap one, however my mum wishes to get me a cloth wrap one :)

You can get some really good connecta and mei tais which would give a better hold then the babybjorn. They hold baby to you more snugly and comfortably with their hips in a more froggy position which is better for the hips. Get in touch with a sling library, really easy to find on facebook for more advice.

Good luck with finding an ideal pram. I only ever picked one pram and it was great, all the others were gifts and not really the best thing I could of wanted

When we bought our Uppababy Vista from JL they told us if you buy the airplane luggage bag Uppababy insure your buggy against damage. We weren't planning on flying with ours but that might be something for you to consider?

forevergreek · 20/07/2013 11:47

I recommend the nipper v3. It folds in one piece and large wheels, so easy to fold at airport. Also relatively cheap (£300 ish)

I would use a sling though at first. Recommend the beco Gemini as goes on front or back so good from newborn- 4 ish years if needed ( used last month with 3 1/2 year old when at airports as travelled late as he fell asleep in it on dh back)

However, we have always travelled with our bugaboo cameleon in travel bag and just checked in with luggage. Could just be lucky, but in 3 1/2 years, with x2 children and approx 50 flights it's survived intact ( and looks new). It was mainly good for us as we used the carrycot for overnight sleeping for the babies when abroad ( we fly at least once a month)

The vista comes with a travel guarantee of some kind - so if it gets damaged during travel they will replace it. I'm not sure of the exact details but it's on their website
