buggy for festival

I currently have an oyster but am thinking about getting a buggy for an upcoming festival. Im hoping it would free up room in my car but I need it to be ok on grass and maybe mud. The oyster is rubbish off road. Anyone any ideas? The cheaper the better. Also, do babies still sleep ok in cheap buggies? Mine will be 12 months old. Thanks.

Yes a lot of babies manage to sleep fine in 'cheap' buggies Hmm

I just meant because they look a bit flimsy, bumpy and I assume they don't recline. Im not sure the 'face' was necessary.

Bumping this as I have the same question. DS will be 6 months. We'll be taking the sling but I'm thinking a pushchair could be useful too. I'm planning on getting something cheap second hand that doesn't matter if it breaks or gets nicked.

It will need to be compact and ok on grass and rough ground. Also it must recline so DS can sleep in it. My initial thought was a Maclaren. Would one be ok on roughish terrain? Also which one? There seem to be so many different models. Any other ideas?

My experience of pushing on grass is that unless you have big wheels it's a nightmare. We have a mountain buggy, which is massive, so wouldn't free up any room at all in the car!

I borrowed a Maclaren umbrella fold for a city holiday and absolutely hated it, it was bumpy and rickety unless on super smooth tarmac.

chocolatemartini · 04/08/2013 20:42

I'd stick with a sling for a festival. Maclaren xlr isn't bad on mown park type grass but no good for proper off road.

Daisybell1 · 04/08/2013 20:47

How small do nippers fold? Could you get something 2nd hand on eBay? Or spend a bit more on eBay and sell on straight away?

Brugmansia · 04/08/2013 22:09

It doesn't need to be really small, just relatively compact to fit in the car with camping stuff. It would probably be useful to have something longer term for other camping trips and trips away, but not too expensive so I dint have to worry about it.

I've found in a few places online what I think are last year's model of the uppababy g-luxe for £100. More than I was planning to spend but may be willing to stretch if it would be a good longer term buy. Any thoughts on this as an option?

The terrain isn't too rough but we would be going across grass for shortish distances.

I used my Oyster at the Iow festival this year with my 8 month old. Also used my sling. Don't forget ear defenders which were a must have.Have a fab time.x

I would look at something a bit more serious off road than a G-Luxe or a Maclaren Hmm
A Nipper, Baby Jogger Elite or Classic, a Mountain Buggy, an Air Buggy Mimi etc. Something with decent bigger wheels!

CruCru · 07/08/2013 18:30

I was at a boat festival in June and stacks of people had Nippers.

I've been thinking about this again. Dp lines the idea of an off road pushchair. My concern is it will take up too much space in the car which won't be available due to camping kit. Wound a micralite toro be a good option, being both compact and able to cope with a wider variety of terrains? The festival will be grassy but not particularly rough terrain.

Brugmansia · 15/08/2013 13:16

Or even a micralite super-lite as that seems very compact?

Tiggywunkle · 15/08/2013 21:15

The Micralites are far from compact folded. Neat folded, but not compact. Lovely pushchairs though. Seriously look at something like a Baby Jogger as the fold is so flat with the wheels popped off.

Brugmansia · 16/08/2013 00:33

We have a bjcm, but it's in Spain with mil there. I find it quite bulky even folded. It's very nice and flat and the folding mechanism is great, but it stays pretty wide. Also although I like it I did find it pretty heavy to push.

I've been looking more now at the super-lite. I may go and have a look tomorrow at one. Even if it's long from the pictures I'm wondering if it's sufficiently spindly that it would be easy to pack things around.
