3 year old and newborn - buggy board / second seat?

Hi All,

My DS is 2 years 10 months and I am due again at the beginning of August. We have a Britax B Dual because DS was/is v tall for his age and constantly dragged his feet on the ground in the Maclaren we had and the B Dual stopped that from happening and I was also pg last year which would have meant a smaller age gap (so second seat option would have been really handy) but sadly miscarried.

Now the age gap between DS1 and DC2 is going to be just less than 3 years. I had assumed the second seat option would have been redundant at this stage, and I was just going to get a buggy board for toddler and use Britax car seat for newborn, moving DC2 into the bigger seat when he or she outgrows the car seat.

However, DS still likes to sit in the buggy from time to time, especially on a longer walk, and I don't know whether he's quite 'ready' to just use the buggy board all the time. At the same time I really don't want to shell out £70 or £80 on a second seat unit that he might only use for a month or so.

Anyone got any advice??! Thanks in advance Flowers

To be honest, I would bite the bullet and buy the second seat unit. I am sure there are some cheap on Ebay, and if you buy well, you will recoup your money back in a few months time when you resell it :)

Tiggy - I'm v tempted! My biggest problem is I'm in N Ireland and a lot of stuff like that on ebay is either 'free to collect' or they slap on a huge postage surcharge, and it also seems to make things tricky to re-sell afterwards. But I have heard it's not unusual for toddlers to not completely give up the buggy til closer to three and a half so we might get 6 months use out of it and it's probably not any more annoying than a buggy board. Ooh decisions, decisions!

Does your ds still sleep in the day? And if he does does he sleep in the pushchair? If yes then it's probably worth investing, if not you might not get much use from it. If he just gets tired legs the buggy board will do the job fine.
I have 18 months between my 2, and I rarely used it past my eldest being 2 1/2, apart from anything else It was too heavy. I've not used one of them but I have seem buggy boards which the child can sit on if they get tired, maybe that would work better for you.

there's 3 years between DD1 and 2, and there'll be 2y9m between DD2 and 3. We do a lot of walking (we don't own a car) and haven't had to use a double, and don't plan to.
little one in a sling until the bigger one is ready to scoot/walk full time, it'll only a few months.

You can get buggy boards with a seat - litaf 'seat to go' is rubbish though, good design but the wheels are useless.

Unless he is a) a child who still naps in the buggy or b) a bolter who needs to be strapped in from time to time, I would bite the bullet and go buggy board.

DD1 was only 2.2 when DD2 was born and she happily went to a buggy board the whole time. I think that, when the buggy is an option, they want it, IYSWIM. Also, when you have a single, buggy is the only option other than walking. I found that there were only about 4 times when DD1 was too tired to stand on the board (and have a bee, so those few times I stuck DD2 in a sling and let her sit down).
